These indexes are a tool for helping one with their genealogical research. As with any research, you will need to go through various records to document your sources.
Our purpose in making indexes available on our website is to help you find more material. For instance, if you are planning to visit the genealogy library, using these indexes before your trip will cut your time down considerably, making your limited time at the library more productive. As a tribute to her love for Lawrence County, Ohio, and her devoted passion for helping others, I am adding her incredible work to our website. Divorces and Divorce Suits Taken from Area Newspapers

The following divorces were taken from various newspapers and court records in Lawrence County, Ohio. Please keep in mind that in some of these cases, there was just a suit FILED for divorce, and there wasn’t any indication whether the divorce was actually awarded. I just pulled what was put in the newspapers as it was printed and have no other information concerning these divorces.

Lawrence County, Ohio Marriage Index 1816-1943
If you are searching for the parent’s names, they are not listed until after 1900, unless the bride or groom was under the legal age, and required the parent or guardian’s signature.
PLEASE NOTE: Before 1900, marriage licenses in Lawrence County, Ohio lists bride, groom, date of marriage, and who married them. After 1900, the license changed and list the ages of brides and groom, parents, birthplace, date of marriage, and who married them.

Obituaries
The 1850-1900 list of our obituaries was abstracted from different newspapers available in Lawrence County, Ohio from the years 1850-1900 by the staff of Briggs Library and other volunteers. You will notice there are some obits that were included after 1900, most of which are Civil War Veterans.
