ABRAHAM BRUBAKER (Abraham) was born on 14 Jun 1761 in Near Luray, Page County, Virginia. He died while on a trip to Ohio while traveling with two brothers-in-law. This information was obtained from a death notice published in the Scioto Gazette (Ohio) on April 29, 1805. Abraham died April 17, 1805, in Jefferson Township, Ohio, in the home of John Ogle. Ogle’s home was located on the road leading from Chillicothe, Ohio. He married Mary Stover, daughter of Samuel Stover and Barbara Lionberger, in 1782 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. She was born about 1765 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia.

Abraham and Mary lived on a plantation adjoining the town of Woodstock Shenandoah Co., Virginia. His will is on record in the Clerk’s office in Woodstock, Va. Several years after his death, his widow married Francis Reese.

In the name of God, Amen. I, Abraham Brubaker of Shenandoah County in the State of Virginia, yeomen, being infirm in body but in my perfect sense and reason, make and ordain this my last will and testament in form following. That is to save and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it. My body, I recommend to the earth, to be decently interred at the discretion of my executrix and touching such worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with, I will and bequeath in the following manner and form:

I will bequeath to Mary Brubaker, my beloved wife, two horses and two cows, first choice, and the remainder of my hogs that are not sold. Likewise, I give my son Samuel one stud horse called Saint George. Likewise, I give my beloved — Brubaker one wagon and four sets of harnesses belonging to the wagon, on bar shear plough and shovel plough. I give her six beds and furniture, one large copper kettle and one coffee kettle and six dishes, one dozen plates of pewter, a dozen knives and forks of choice, one year’s bread, and the full thirds of my personal estate after all my debts is paid. Likewise, I give my second son John Brewbaker [sic] two-year-old mare called Jehoseb, and one saddle and bridle. Likewise, I give my third son Abraham one yearling stud colt called Republican.

Likewise, I give my fourth son Daniel Brewbaker [sic], one yearling mare colt Republican. Likewise, I will bequeath to all my children and an equal part of my estate, exclusive of the above-mentioned gifts. That is to say, Samuel, John, Abraham, Daniel, David, Jacob, Catharine, Rebekah Brubaker. Likewise, I desire that my estate be converted into money and for my executors to hold the money in their hands and pay my children their legacies as they come of age.

Likewise, I, Abraham Brubaker, do acknowledge by this testament that I am perfectly willing to give up all my right and title of a deed for land on which Woodstock town now stands except one acre of ground where the dwelling house and stables, provided that Susannah Strickler, Catharine, Rhodes, Christen Strickler, Anna Coffman, and Mary Lionberger comes forward and gives an indemnified bond to me, or my executors to clear me of my heirs Admas or assigns from all damages, respecting my father Abraham Brubaker and my own conduct, respecting the town of Woodstock.

I, Abraham Brubaker, choose my beloved wife, Mary Brubaker, and Daniel Stover as my executors. And I do utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former will in any other ways before named, willed, bequeathed, relating, and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have unto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and five.

Abraham Brubaker and Mary Stover had the following children:

  1. JACOB BRUBAKER was born in Shenandoah, Va. He died before 1807.

  2. SAMUEL BRUBAKER was born on 28 Apr 1784 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died on 12 Nov 1841 in Millerstown, Champaign, Ohio. He married Barbara Comer before 1812 in Virginia. She was born in 1787. She died in 1852.
  3. JOHN BRUBAKER was born in 1786 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died after 1810. He married Magdalena Albert on 07 Jan 1808.
  4. ABRAHAM BRUBAKER was born in 1788 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died in 1850 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He married Elizabeth Poage, daughter of Robert Poage and Mary Hopkins, on 15 Apr 1811 in Ashland, Kentucky. She was born in 1788 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She died in 1846 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
  5. DANIEL BRUBAKER was born on 08 Jul 1791 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died on 24 Jun 1868 in Lawrence Co., Ohio. He married MAGARET D. DAVIDSON. She was born on 27 Sep 1803 in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia. She died on 31 Aug 1850 in Lawrence Co., Ohio.
  6. DAVID BRUBAKER was born in 1793 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died on 19 Jul 1860 in Lawrence County, Ohio. He married Leah Lionberger, daughter of John Lionberger and Barbara Hershberger, on 06 Aug 1814 in Hagerstown, Md. She was born on 02 Apr 1797 in Page County, Virginia. She died on 03 Oct 1872 in Fayette Twp., Lawrence County, Ohio. 16.
  7. CATHERINE BRUBAKER was born on 16 May 1798 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. She died on 03 Jul 1882. She married Samuel Kouns, son of Christian Kouns and Anna Lamp, on 06 Oct 1814 in Perry Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. He was born on 08 Jan 1795 in Greenbrier, Virginia. He died on 25 Sep 1843. 17.
  8. REBECCA BRUBAKER was born on 04 Jan 1803 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. She died on 25 May 1877 in Lawrence, Ohio. She married (1) JAMES SAMUEL FERGUSON. He was born about 1800 in Lawrence County, Ohio. He died on 30 Dec 1822 in Lawrence County, Ohio. She married (2) MATTHIAS WINTERS, son of Henry Winters and Margaret, on 10 Mar 1825 in Lawrence, Ohio. He was born in 1800 in Harrison, West Virginia. He died in 1834 in Lawrence County, Ohio. She married (3) GEORGE PARKER FREEMAN, son of William Freeman and Sarah Parker, on 28 Aug 1838 in Lawrence, Ohio. He was born on 21 Apr 1811 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. He died on 23 Sep 1891 in Lawrence, Ohio.

    I would like to make a correction to this posting. Additional research has revealed that Abraham Brubaker died while on a trip to Ohio while traveling with two brother-in-laws. This information was obtained from a death notice published in the Scioto Gazette (Ohio) of April 29, 1805. Abraham died April 17, 1805, in Jefferson Township, Ohio, in the home of John Ogle. Ogle’s home was located on a road leading from Chillicothe, Ohio.
