William Russell Letter to Samuel Russell

This letter was recorded in the Lawrence County, Ohio Deeds. I transcribed it the best I could and changed the misspelled words, except one (something I never do, but made an exception to this document for easier reading). I am not quite sure which William Russell he is referring to in this letter that had died, that will require a little more research on someone else’s part.

Civil Rights Bill 1874

the suspension of the public schools in Proctorsville, [sic] Lawrence county, we have received the Ironton Commercial, which confirms our report, only it shows that the imbroglio was even more complicated than we had at first supposed.

Bloody Affray

Six Negro slaves who had escaped from their masters on the opposite side of the Ohio river, some eight or ten days previous, called on Josiah Crawford, who lives in Lawrence County, Ohio requesting him to show the road north.

German Reform Church Ironton, Ohio

The old German Reform church building, which was later remodeled and converted into a duplex residence was being removed to the South Side from Fourth and Vernon street. A Refiners Oil Company filling station is to be constructed at the latter site and G. P. Mahl and Son,

Old Resident Writes a Letter

A letter was received Thursday by Postmaster Strobel and handed to us by Deputy Wiseman, which comes from a man who has been out of communication with Ironton for so long a time that he asks for the names of the newspapers published here.
