These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is important material for the genealogist.

Haeberle Max E 1988 Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, Sept. 11, 1988) Max E. Haeberle – Max E. Haeberle, 85, 0f Route 2, Proctorville, died Friday in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. He was born Sept. 11, 1903, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Jacob and Clara Oswald Haeberle. He was a retired employee of CSX Transportation Inc. a member and past master of Proctorville Masonic Lodge No. 550 and a member of the Teresa Chapter No. 257 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, Proctorville. Survivors include the wife, Rachel Elizabeth Dillon Haeberle; one son, the Rev. John Haeberle of Wheeling, W.Va.; a grandson and two nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Whitaker. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville.
Hager Jusine Halley 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Jun 05, 2003) JUSTINE F. HAGER, 84, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of South Point, Ohio, died Friday, May 30, 2003, in Mercy Franciscan Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Galloway officiating. Justine was born October 24, 1918, a daughter of the late George Oscar and Lottie Mae Lewis Halley. She was a member of Eastern Star #404 South Point, DAV Unit #2 Huntington, and VFW Post 6878 Proctorville Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson C. Hager; four sisters, Goldie Jordan, Ruby Hall, Bertha Sites and Effie Archer; and one brother, Jim Halley. Justine is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and James Perry of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rebecca and Rick Williams of South Carolina; two granddaughters, Rachel Hartman and her husband, Steve, and Abigail Perry; four sisters, Gladys Sites of Chesapeake, Ohio, Irene Sites of Fla., Gertrude Stanley of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Pauline Curry of South Point, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted Friday 1 P.M. at Schneider Funeral Home at Chesapeake, by the Rev. John Alley. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery at Rome, Ohio. He was born March 31. 1902 in Cabell Co., WV, a son of the late Joseph and Laura Pemberton Hagley. He was a retired foreman of the Wood Mosaic, Huntington. Preceded in death by his former wife Wilda Freeman Hagley. Hagley Clovis 1958 THE IRONTON TRIBUNE – Wednesday, June 18, 1958 Word has been received here of the death of Clovis Hagley, of San Bernadino, Calif.   Mr. Hagley was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. (Joseph) Click Hagley, formerly of Huntington.   Surviving are his wife, Maude Freeman Hagley, formerly of Chesapeake; one daughter, Mrs. Jelphia (Zelphia?) Deaton, of San Bernadino.   One brother, Cecil Hagley, of Proctorville; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie Vance and Wilma Hagley, both of Huntington.   Funeral services were conducted today in San Bernadino, followed with burial there.
Hagley Wilda Freeman 1957 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday May 17, 1957) Mrs. Wilda Hagley – 59 years old, of Proctorville, Ohio, died at 6 P.M. yesterday in a Huntington, WV hospital.  She was a daughter of the late John and Ella Freeman.  Survivors include the husband Cecil Hagley; 5 daughters, Mrs. Frances Rucker of Petersburg, VA, Mrs. Edna Mae Harrison of Huntington, W. and Mrs. Mildred Zimmerman, Mrs. Margaret Ball and Mrs. Fern Spotloe of Proctorville, Ohio; 6 brothers, Kelly and Alden of Chesapeake, Ohio, Carl Freeman of Huntington, WV, Everett and Harold Freeman of Proctorville, Ohio, and Charles Freeman of Scottown, Ohio; 5 sisters, Mrs. Adrian Brown and Mrs. Myrtie Stephens of Proctorville, Ohio, Mrs. Maude Hagley of San Diego, Calif, Mrs. Lillian Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Carrie Adkins of Huntington, WV, and 4 grandchildren.  The body is at Schneider Funeral Home at Chesapeake, Ohio.
Hall Alma Dunfee 1999 Huntington Herald Dispatch – Sunday, December 19, 1999 Alma him. Dunfee Hall, 83, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with her Lord Saturday, December 18, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a very caring and devoted mother and grandmother who gave all her love and devotion to her children. She was born October 2, 1916 in Lawrence County, Oh., a daughter of the late William Albert and Navy Bowen Dunfee. She retired after 26 years from the S.S. Logan Packing Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Sigsbee Hall; a very special son, Bruce R. Ferris; and one sister, Alice E. Funk. She is survived by three children, Leslie D. and his wife Nancy Ferris of Chesapeake, Ohio, Ruth Ann and her husband, Ronnie Arrowood of Glenwood, W.Va. and Melanie J. And her husband, Larry F. Day of Proctorville, Ohio; one special daughter-in-law, Beverly Ferris of Chesapeake, OH.; seven grandchildren, Leslie and, Tammy Hall, Chris Ferris, Amiee Facemyer, Matthew Arrowood, Rachel Ferris and Melanie Ann Day; three great-grandchildren, Alex Facemyer Elizabeth and Samantha Hall; two nephews, Bill and Henry funk; and special friends too numerous to mention. Graveside service am burial will be Monday 1.00 pm December 20, 1999 at Centenary Cemetery with Rev. Jack Fout officiating there will be no visitation. Hall Carolyn Smoot 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Jan 21, 2003) CAROLYN J. HALL, 73, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, with Pastor Daryl Fourman officiating. Carolyn was a member of Chesapeake United Methodist Church, where she was the church pianist. She was also a homemaker and piano teacher. She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Chesapeake, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Wilks Smoot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Burton Hall Jr., and one brother, John Henry Smoot. Carolyn is survived by three sons, Harold Michael Hall, Richard Alan Hall, John Edward Hall and his wife Vicki Palmer Hall; one daughter, Julianna Hall Sims and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Jessica Erin Hall, Nicholas Evan Hall, Brennan Palmer Hall, Jeremy Andrew Hall, Lee Anna Hall, Samuel Henry Sims; three great-grandchildren; and one cousin, Wakeman Smoot and his wife Glenna. Hall Daisy Gore 1959 Ironton Tribune – (Friday, November 27, 1959) Mrs. Daisy M. Hall, 67, wife of Ernest Hall, of Kitts Hill, died Wednesday at 10:05 PM in General Hospital after an illness of one year. Mrs. Hall was born in Lawrence County on November 6, 1892, a daughter of Madison and Mary Pemberton Gore. She spent most of her life in Kitts Hill and was a member of Bald Knob E.U.B. Church and Buckeye Grange. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Helen Fleihman, Mrs. Carolyn Woolwine, and Thelma and Mary Ann Hall, all of Kitts Hill, and Mrs. Wanda Case of Lewisburg, Ohio; two sons, John Hall of Kitts Hill and William Hall of Ironton; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Three sisters, Mrs. Lenora Livesay of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. James Stumbo of Ironton and Mrs. Homer Mays of Kitts Hill; two brothers, Amel Gore of Orlando Fla., and William Gore of Ironton. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 PM at Phillips Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Dillon and Rev. Earl Hinkle will officiate with burial in Locust Grove Cemetery.
Hall Daniel H 1993 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Wednesday, May 26, 1993) Mr. Daniel Howard Hall, 84, of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Monday, May 24, 1993, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday at Schneider Funeral Home, Chesapeake, by Rev. Duane Smith and Rev. Jerry Galloway. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. He was born November 7, 1980, in Chicago, Ill, a son of the late Trevor and Ollie Halley Hall. He was a retired employee of the Montgomery Ward Company, and was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Halley Hall. He is survived to one sister, Katherine Jenkins of Pensacola, Fla; beloved sisters-in-law, including a special caregiver, Gertrude Stanley; and nieces and nephews. Hall Frank L 1959 Ironton Tribune – (Thursday, May 21, 1959) Frank L. Hall, 79, of Aid, died at 9:55 pm Wednesday at General Hospital after an illness of 10 days. Mr. Hall was born September 18, 1879 in Lawrence Township, son of the late William and Margaret Talley Hall. He was married to Willa B. Pemberton in the 1897 and resided most of his life in Lawrence and Aid Townships. She preceded him in death April 12, 1957. Mr. Hall operated a general store at Aid for 35 years, retiring three years ago. He was a member of Bald Knob E.U.B. Church and an active Minister in the church for several years. Surviving are one son, Hillis Hall of Circleville; two daughters, Mrs. Addie Kelley of Aid and Mrs. Stella Kelley of Kitts Hill; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Clyde Hall and Mrs. Emmazetta Wilson. Funeral services will be be Saturday at 2 pm in Phillips Funeral Home. Rev. Earl Hinkle and Rev. Raymond Dillon will officiate with burial in Myrtle Ridge Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 1 pm Friday. Pallbearers will be Wayne Kelley, Frank Kelley, Fred Wilson, Carl Sites, Lloyd Riggs and John Mootz.
Hall Harold B 1994 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Thursday, January 6, 1994) Mr. Harold Burton Hall Jr., 70, of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 5, 1994, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, January 7, 1994, at Schneider Funeral Home, Chesapeake, by the Rev. John Stock Ridge. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. He was born June 30, 1929, at Scottown, Ohio, a son of the late Harold B. Hall Sr. and Emma Shafer Hall. He was a member of Chesapeake United Methodist Church and very active in the community. He was a member of Chesapeake Lions Club, and also served as member, president, and vice president of the Board of Education for the Chesapeake School District for 24 years. He also served on the board of trustees for the Huntington Chamber Orchestra. He retired as sales manager from WSAZ-TV and was a lifetime member and three-time president of the Advertising Club of Huntington. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Smoot Hall; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold Michael Hall, John and Vicki Hall, all of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Richard Allen Hall of Seth, WV; one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita Hall and David Sims of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers and a sister all, Charles and Sarah Hall of Columbus, Ohio, and Robert Hall of Brazil; one sister and a brother in law, Alice Margaret and James Cameron of Columbus, Ohio; and five grandchildren. Hall John W 1935 Ironton Tribune – (Monday, October 21, 1935) John W. Hall of Kitts Hill Claimed by Death Sunday Death Sunday morning at 3:45 o’clock claimed John W. Hall of Kitts Hill, one of Lawrence County’s most prominent farmers and fruit growers. Life of the beloved Lawrence Countian was brought to a close by an illness which dated back to last winter, an illness which became serious two weeks ago. Had Mr. Hall lived until the coming January 12 he would have been 69 years of age. On May 27, three years ago, his good wife, Louella Lambert Hall was claimed by death and Mr. Hall never quite fully recovered from the shock of that parting. Born and reared in Lawrence County, Mr. Hall passed his entire life here and was classed among the most successful fruit growers and farmers of Southern Ohio. He was a member of Grange 1712 of Wilgus. Five children survive as follows, Ernest O. Hall, Rock Camp, W.C. Hall, former Ironton High School coach and faculty member of Cleveland, Mrs. Marjorie Conrad, Springfield, Ohio; Mrs. Gladys O. Webb, Ironton and Mrs. Clarice E. Rapp, Ironton Route Two. There are 14 grandchildren. One brother, Frank L. Hall of Aid and two sisters, Mrs. David Corbin of Kitts Hill and Mrs. John C. Clay of Columbus, Ohio, also survive. Obsequies will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Bald Knob Church of which the deceased was a devout member with Rev. Guy McDaniel, former pastor of the church officiating assisted by Rev. Olaf Jenkins of Sciotoville, a nephew of the deceased. Burial will be made beside his wife in picturesque Locust Grove Cemetery under direction of W.W. Phillips of Waterloo. A quartet will sing Mr. Hall’s favorite hymns. Pallbearers will be Mesrs. Ernest O. Hall, W.C. Hall, Frank L. Webb, Edwin Conrad, Frank Townsend and Dan C. Rapp.
Hall Louella Lambert 1932 Ironton Tribune – (Saturday, May 28, 1932)  Louella Lambert Hall, 68, Passed Away at Kitts Hill Last Evening Louella Lambert Hall, 65, wife of John W. Hall, prominent fruit grower of Kitts Hill, this county, died at her home at 3:45 last night following an illness which was extended over a period of two years. Her condition became serious 10 days ago. Death was due to heart trouble and a compilation of diseases. Mrs. Hall, one of the most beloved women in Lawrence County was a lifelong resident of the county. She was born at Aid. During her lifetime she was an active member of the Bald Knob U.B. (United Brethren) Church and a teacher and Sunday school and interested in the work of the Ladies Aid Society of the Church. While her passing does not come as a surprise to due to her extended illness, nevertheless it will be a distinct shock to her hundreds of friends and all sections of the county and city. In addition to her grief-stricken widower and legion of friends she is survived by the following brothers and sisters, C.M. Lambert of Wichita, Kan.; Perry Lambert of Aid; Mrs. E.S. Pain of Wilgus and Mrs. Evelyn Jenkins of South Fifth Street, Ironton. The following children also survive; Ernest Hall of Rock Camp, Mrs. William E. Conrad  of Springfield, Ohio, Mrs. D.C. Rapp of South. Seventh Street, Mrs. Frank Webb of South Ninth Street and Mrs. W.C. Hall former coach of Ironton High School, now residing in Cleveland Heights, Cleveland, Ohio; an additional 12 grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be at 3 PM Sunday at Rev. Robert Gehres, pastor of the church officiating and Rev. Olaf Jenkins assisting. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery under direction of Undertaker Phillips.
Hall Ruby Halley 1990 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, March 16, 1990) Ruby Hall, 76, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 15, 1990, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born December 31, 1913, and Bladen, Ohio, a daughter of the late Oscar and Lottie Mae Lewis Halley. She was a retired salesclerk four Bradshaw-Diehl Department Store, and was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church, She was preceded in death by two sisters, Effie Archer and Bertha Sites. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Howard Hall; six sisters, Goldie Jordan of Huntington, WV, Irene Sites of Ocala, Fl, Gertrude Stanley and Gladys Sites, both of Chesapeake, and Justine Hager and Pauline Curry, both of South Point, Ohio; one brother, Chancey ‘Jim’ Halley of Huntington; seven nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday at Schneider Funeral Home, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Duane Smith. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Hall Willa Pemberton 1957 Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, April 14, 1957) Mrs. Willa V. Hall, 77, wife of Frank L. Hall, of Aid, died Friday at 11:58 p.m. at her home following a nine-year illness. She was born June 22, 1879, near Andis, a daughter of the late Elliott and Emmazetta Brammer Pemberton. In 1897 she married Frank L. Hall and the couple had resided most of their lives in the Aid community. Mr. Hall operated a grocery there for many years. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Bald Knob E. E.U.B Church. Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Mrs. Stella Kelley of Kitts Hill, Mrs. Addie Kelley of Aid and Mrs. Phyllis H. Hall of Circleville, Oh.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two children, Clyde and Emmazetta preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. and Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery. The body is at the Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

Halleck Annie Elkins 2009 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Mar 01, 2009) ANNIE G. HALLECK, 83, of Proctorville, Ohio, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. She was born October 9, 1925, daughter of the late James and Anise Hardy Elkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Halleck, who passed away in 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Martha Pine, Emogene Shepherd, Helen Smith and Dorothy Elkins, brothers, Wayne Elkins and Corbett Elkins. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sue Halleck of South Point, Ohio, and daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Roger Porter of Mims, Florida; grandchildren, Jamey (Tricia) Halleck and Allen Halleck of South Point, Sonja (Bill) Wiles, Tonja (Jason) Tucker, Tammy (Josh) Little of Florida; great-grandchildren, Colten Halleck of South Point and Joshua Little, Alexis Wiles, Anna Arthur and Kaylee Little of Florida; one sister, Lillie Elkins Stapleton of Proctorville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Dow) Dempsey and Fleta (Armanas) Perry; and many precious nieces, nephews and friends. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio. He was born April 20, 1922, in Lawrence Co, Oh, son of the late Peter and Emma Jones Halleck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtie Marie Halleck, four brothers and a sister. He was a retired farmer and a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Getaway. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Getaway Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Hamlin officiating.   Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.   Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Schneider Funeral Home.   The body will lie in state one hour prior to be funeral at the church.   He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and two half-brothers.   Survivors include two brothers, Frank Halleck of Huntington, W.Va., and Clay and Myrtie Halleck of South Point, with whom he made his home: and one sister, Ida Adkins of Chesapeake.

The Proctorville native was born March 12, 1908, the daughter of the late Revillow (Revillo) and Lona Freeman Johnson. She was the wife of the late Alta Hamlin. She was a housewife and a member of the South Point Senior Citizen Center Choir. She was a Baptist. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Elsie Huff and Marjorie Hudson; two brothers, Bert Johnson and Elva Johnson; and three sisters, Zelda Christian, Lillie Delawder and Myrtie Hamlin. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Edward Linkfield of South Point; one son and daughter-in-law, Park and Betty Jean Hamlin of Ashland, Ky. 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Hankins John D 1954 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, July 27, 1954)  John D. Hankins, 79, a lifelong resident of Coal Grove, died this morning at 10:15 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Dillon of 809 Marion Pike. He had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Hankins was born on July June 21, 1875 in Lawrence County, son of the late William and Jane Hankins. He spent his entire life in the Ice Creek – Coal Grove area and was a retired farmer. In 1900 he was united in marriage to Maggie Melstedt (Milsteadt), who preceded him in death in 1944. Mr. Hankins was a lifelong member of Zoar Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dillon of Coal Grove, and Mrs. Kenneth Smith of Sciotoville; a son, Chester Hankins of Coal Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Kimble and Mrs. Myrtle Webb, both of Hecla; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One son died in infancy. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home, pending completion of funeral arrangements.

He was a retired sales manager for Rollyson Aluminum Company and a U.S. Army World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ironton where he served as deacon, chairman of the official board and superintendent of Sunday Schools. Hardy Martha Freeman 1925 Ironton Tribune – Friday, July 31, 1925 Mrs. Martha J. Hardy, 49, died at her home in the county July 29, at 2:30 a.m. after an extended illness with cancer. She was widely known in her community and is survived by the following children: Isaac Hardy and Mrs. Anace Elkins of Getaway; Armour, Gertrude, Amy, Charles, Hazel and Billie at home. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago as did one daughter, Mrs. Rona Duncan, who died last May. Here father, Isaac Freeman, survives. Funeral services were held at Getaway Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Interment was in Getaway Cemetery with Undertaker Schneider in charge.

Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, December 22, 1968) Asa Owen Harmon, Sr., 70, of Willow Wood, Route 1, a well-known Lawrence County farmer, died at 10:30 AM Saturday at Veterans Hospital, Huntington (Wayne County, WV). He had been ill for three days. The U.S. Army Veteran of World War I was born at Rappsburg and formerly resided in Ironton. A number years ago he was employed with Harmon’s Clothing Store and served as Deputy Sheriff at one time. He had been operating his farm at Willow Wood for approximately 25 years. Mr. Harmon was a member of New Zion United Baptist Church. His wife, Mrs. Mildred Wiseman Harmon, died in October. Harmon Cyrus B 1943 IRONTON TRIBUNE – (Friday, May 7, 1943) Cyrus B. Harmon, 76, died Thursday at 9 p.m. following a long illness.  He was born near Rappsburg April 13, 1867, son of George and Rebecca Callicoat Harmon and was united in marriage to Sarah Ellcessor March 23, 1890, their happy union continuing for more than 53 years.  They observed their golden wedding anniversary three years ago.   They conducted a store at Polkadotte for some time, then moved to a farm near Rappsburg, where they had since resided.   They reared a family of five girls and one son, all of whom are living, Mr. Harmon’s death being the first to break the family circle.   He was converted at the age of 16 years, joined New Zion Baptist Church, of which he was a charter member.   He lived a devout christian life but had not been able to attend services regularly of late due to illness.   He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, these children; Mrs. Homer Brown of Pedro, Mrs. Ben Pinson of Rappsburg, Mrs. W. H. Richards of Ironton, Owen Harmon, Ironton, Mrs. Orpha Peters, Lecta, Mrs. Iva Murdock of Chesapeake, 16 grandchildren.  One grandchild preceded him in death in 1926.   One brother, A. W. Harmon of near Porkadotte, these sisters, his Eva Gornell, Porkadotte, Mrs. Maggie Hughes, Wilgus, Mrs. Mary O’Neill of Ironton, also survive.  One brother, A. L. Hartman, died a few years ago.   Friends may call at the residence.   Services will be conducted in New Zion Church Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. (Bo) Harmon, 56, of 321 Rockwood Ave., Chesapeake, Ohio, clerk treasurer of the Chesapeake Village Council, was pronounced dead on arrival at Cabell-Huntington Hospital at 4:40 am Sunday.  Death was caused by an apparent heart attack. Mr. Harmon, a native of Lawrence Co., Ohio, was a former deputy sheriff and former investigator for the prosecuting attorney’s office with Dennis Callihan from 1961-1969. Several years ago, he served as a justice of the peace in Lawrence County and from 1954-1958, he was mayor of Chesapeake. Surviving are the widow, Goldie Ferris Harmon; two daughters, Mrs. William K. (Barbara) Ward and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Parsons of Chesapeake; a son, Frank Harmon of Proctorville; a brother, Gwinn Harmon of Proctorville; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Hail Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio, with Fred “Jack” Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Goldie was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Chadwick, III., a daughter of the late Elton and Martha Ferris. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, D.W. “Boe” Harmon and Milford Conley. Goldie was the former owner of Harmon Grocery of Chesapeake, Ohio. She served as a bail bondsman and was on the Central Committee of Chesapeake. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington, W.Va. Goldie is survived by one son and his wife, Frank and Joyce Harmon of Proctorville: two daughters, Barbara Ward and her husband BilI, and Linda Kilgore and Robert Parsons, all of Chesapeake. She had five grandchildren, Scott (Trina) Ward, Denise Ward, Pam (Tim) Shafer, Robert (Christy) Parsons and Tracey (Jeff) Price; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Shafter, Madison Ward and Karrah Parsons; two sisters, Evelyn Blevins of Chesapeake and Florence Hastings of Proctorville. Harmon Ivy Miller 1962 Ironton Tribune – (Friday, May 4, 1962) Mrs. Ivy L. Harmon, 82, of Miller, died Thursday at 10:25 a.m. in a Huntington hospital. Mrs. Harmon was born February 26, 1880, a daughter of the late Delbert and Sally Lewis Miller. She was married in 1907 to Alfred Harmon, who died in 1961. They lived all of their married life in the Polkadotte community. Harmon Maude Metz 1968 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, July 05, 1968) Mrs. Maud (Sophia?) Harmon, 96, 123 1/2 N. 3rd St., widow of Asa L. Harmon, died Wednesday in Lawrence County General Hospital. Mrs. Harmon and her husband, who died in 1940, owned a clothing and shoe store in Huntington a number of years ago. In 1901 they established Harmon’s Clothing Store at 3rd and Central Streets. They moved to store to its present site at 3rd and Railroad Streets in 1925. The native of Monroe County, Ohio, was born October 12, 1871, a daughter of the late Adam and Carolyn Holschuh Metz. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. A son, Irvin Harmon, preceded her in death in 1932. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Paul O. (Virgie) Mende          and Mrs. Dan (Frieda) Grimes, both of Ironton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. A.T. Payne of Ironton and Mrs. Charles Haffner of Springfield, Ohio; two brothers, Jacob Metz of Ironton and Adam Metz of Huntington. Harrison Clarence E 2008 (Thursday, Jan 24, 2008) (No newspaper given-mm) CLARENCE E. HARRISON, 81, of Rincon, Ga., passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in Hospice Savannah, Ga. The McDowell County, West Virginia, native had graduated from Huntington East High School in the Class of 1944 and was a retired chief store keeper (1953-1977) with the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons, where he received the Superior Service Award of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, and he was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees. He was also a retired purchasing agent (1978-1992) with the Savannah International Airport. He was a founding member of the Fellowship Bible Church and a U.S. Army Air Corp World War II veteran, having served in the 307th Fighter Squadron 31st Fighter Group. Mr. Harrison was a member of the American Legion Post 209 and was a longtime supporter of the Sun Valley Indian School in Sun Valley, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Harrison. Survivors include his daughter, Leah Harrison of Rincon; sister Donna Sue Harrison Molto of Dunnellon, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Fern and Edward Spotloe, and Margareta Ball, all of Proctorville, Ohio; three nephews, Keith Zimmerman, Mike Ball and Bruce Ball. She was born February 28, 1913 in Proctorville, the daughter of the late T.M. and Amie Johnson Wilks. She was a member of Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church. On September 19, 1934 she married Carroll Hayes, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lee (Joyce) Wright of Scottown, Mrs. Rosemary Freeman and Mrs. Robert (Rite) Heinz, both of Proctorville; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judy Hayes of Proctorville; two grandsons, Terry Michael Freeman and Jason Heinz, both of Proctorville; a sister, Mrs. Antone (Stella) Porceno of Wautoma, Wis.; and a brother, Lawrence Wilks of Proctorville. Henry George R 1981 Point Pleasant Register – (Thursday, August 13, 1981) George Robert Henry, 91, Gallipolis Ferry, died Tuesday morning at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Born March 14, 1898 Gallipolis Ferry, he was the son of the late Gus Henry and Mary Wright Henry. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church and a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Price Henry; a daughter, Mrs. Molly Logan of Gallipolis Ferry; three sons, Norman and Charles, both of Gallipolis Ferry, and Henry of London, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Flossie Wilson of Marysville, Ohio; a brother, Ace Henry of Gallipolis Ferry. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, John Robert and Donald, preceded him in death. He graduated from Aid High School and attended Rio Grande College. He manages stores for 14 years for Kingston and Pocahontas Coal Companies at Westerly and Hemphill, W.Va. until returning to Waterloo in 1932. His first wife, Addie Carter Herrell, died in 1930 (in Hemphill, W.Va.). He he was born June 4, 1856, at Russell County, Va. He came to Ohio with his parents, John and Sarah Vincel Herrell at the age of fourteen years, the family locating at Haverhill. Two years later Mr. Herrell started working for James Bradshaw at Arabia and seven years later started farming on his own. He was united in marriage to Jane Neal, daughter of Vint Neal, and the family at since resided in Arabia. His wife preceded him in death 20 years. He was a member of Arabia Baptist Church for years and of the Waterloo Grange. He is survived by two brothers, John of Etna and Tom of Arabia, one sister, Mrs. Victoria Chester of Marion, Ohio and the following children; Mr. Homer Betts of Denver, Amos, Clyde and Fred of Waterloo, Mrs. Gussie Wickline of Waterloo, Bracey of Ashland and Vernon, Roxie and Virgie at home.

Hesson, and 11 brothers and sisters, Robert, Bill, John, and Loren Zimmerman, Cora Dunfee, Sarah Powers, Mary Zimmerman, Lillian Stone, Sylvia Callahan, Nellie Will and Nora Fuchs. She had lived in Ironton and Coal Grove all her life and was a member of Central Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Hill; one brother; and one sister. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Howard (June) Covey of Ironton; two sons, Donald Hill of Ironton and Lewis Hill of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Maggie Dyke and Lorena Roadcup, both of Ironton, and Nellie Cropper of Sciotoville. He was born November 7, 1923, in Proctorville, Ohio, son of the late Harold and Georgia Fuller Holderby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen J. Holderby; two sisters, Mary Opal Fuller and Stella Crisenberry; and three brothers, Harold, Finley and Harry Holderby. Everett was former owner of Holderby’s Super Value and retired from Kroger. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a lifetime member of Huntington VFW Post #1064, and member of AMVETS Post #0141. Everett was of Methodist faith. Holderby Mahala McConnell 1938 Ironton Tribune – (Wednesday, June 8, 1938) Mrs. Mahala Holderby Dies Following a Brief Illness Mrs. Mahala Holderby, 83-year-old resident of Perkins Ridge and Windsor Township died at her home Saturday morning following a brief illness. She arose as usual and was engaged in a regular homework when she became ill. She died within thirty minutes. Mrs. Holderby was born and reared on Perkins Ridge. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willis McConnell and was a member of Perkins Ridge Baptist Church. Her husband died in 1918 and two children, Rev. F. A. Holderby and Perry Holderby also preceded her in death. The latter was a policeman in Springfield and was killed during a robbery there some years ago. Mrs. Holderby is survived by seven children, Lindsay and Clem of New Mexico, Vernon of Davenport, Wash., John of Springfield, Ohio, Mrs. Harry Jones of Ironton, Clara and Orville at home. Linnville — Michael Holschuh , 47, of Linville died Tuesday at his home.  The Lawrence County native was born March 13, 1950, the son of Leonard and Irene Wilson Holschuh, of Linnville who survive. He was the husband of Pinky M. Bellville Holschuh, who also survives. He was a casting processor at Ironton Iron and is a member of Linnville United Baptist Church.  He attended Dawson — Bryant schools.  Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, included three sons, Michael Brent Holschuh; Gary Allan Holschuh and Barry Lee Holschuh, all of Linnville; one grandson; and three brothers, Darryll Holschuh South Point and Keith Holschuh and Randy Holschuh, both of Linnville. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Philips funeral home with the Rev. Danny Huff, 37, of Hurricane, died Monday of an apparent heart attack while at home on leave from the Army.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Laywell Church of Christ, of which he was a member, by the Rev. William Edwards.  Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery.  Born January 27, 1933, he was the son of Charles Huff of Floral City, Fla., and the late Mrs. Huff.  He was stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala., and was en route to Fort Lewis, Wash. for overseas assignment.  A career Army man for 16 years, he is also survived by the widow, Hazel Smith Huff; a son, Leslie D. Huff; three brothers, Raymond Huff of Pennsylvania, Walter Huff of Huntington, and Kenneth Huff of South Point, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. Leona Reed and Mrs. Ellen Rice, both of Chesapeake, Ohio.  Friends may call after 10 A.M. today at the Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane.  The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service with military rites at the graveside.

The Lawrence County native was born June 13, 1931, the son of Fonnie Ward Huff of South Point, who survives, and the late Samuel Huff Sr. He was the husband of Jo Ann Kates Huff, who also survives. He was a former employee of Borden Dairy and Gallagher Ford before going into business for himself in 1977 as Hilltop Alignment. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Huff Jr., and a grandson, Elijah Kimball Huff. Huff Raymond V 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, May 16, 2003) RAYMOND V. HUFF, 88, a resident of Puyallup, Wash., since 1991, died (Saturday) May 3, 2003. He was born July 23, 1914 and graduated from Chesapeake High School. He worked locally before being commissioned as a training officer with the Corps of Engineers during World War II. While in service, he met and married the love of his life, Alta Lee Battersby, an officer in the WAAC. After the war, Ray and “Chick” lived in Huntington, W.Va., later moving to Ellwood City, Pa., her hometown, where they continued raising their children. There, Ray was active in the Presbyterian church and served as Boy Scout leader. He retired as a postal carrier, and later moved back to Huntington, where he enjoyed working in medical equipment service, building repair, maintenance and consulting. In 1991, he moved to Puyallup, Wash. For the past eight years, Ray made many friends at the Merrill Gardens senior community where he enjoyed an independent lifestyle. He is survived by daughter, Susan Huff and faithful friend Donna Caldwell of Edgewood, Wash.; brother, Walter Huff of Huntington, W.Va.; sister, Helen Rice of Ironton, Ohio; and granddaughter, Cassandra Gail Huff of Means, Ky. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alta Lee (they shared 21 years together until her death in 1967), son Lee, brother, Danny, sister, Leona Reed and brother Kenneth. A celebration of his life will be at 3 p.m. May 17, at Sue and Donna’s home in Edgewood, Wash. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

Huff Sarah Money 1975 Ironton Tribune – Sunday, Nov. 02, 1975 Sarah Elizabeth Huff, 81, of South Point, died Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late John and Hattie Marcum Money.  Preceding her in death was her husband, George Huff in 1961. Mrs. Huff was a member of the Big Branch United Methodist Church. Hughel Charlotte Peters 1990 Springfield News Sun – (Wednesday, January 31, 1990)  Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Hughel, 86, 619 East Rose Street died at 12:30 AM, Tuesday, January 30, 1990 in her daughter’s residence following several months illness. She was born August 8, 1903 in Gallia County, the daughter of Jeptha and Ortensa (Higgins) Peters and was a Springfield resident for most of her life. Mrs. Hughel was employed for many years at Carmen’s and William Green’s dress shops. She is survived by one son, James E. Hughel of Springfield; one daughter, Betty H. Young of South Vienna; three grandchildren, James M. Hughel of New Jersey, Jamie Hughel of Dayton, and Jeffrey Young of Springfield; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stacy Peters of Springfield, Herman Peters of Florida; one sister, Lucy Gardner of Christiansburg, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend of the family, Ralph Weigand. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Hughel, December 14, 1896; two sisters and six brothers. Hughel, 79, of 619 East Rose Street died at 12:15 PM, Sunday, December 14, 1986 in Mercy Medical Center following several months illness. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he was born February 27, 1907, a son of Frank ‘Buff’ and Helen Ellen (Carty) Hughel. Mr. Hughel retired from International Harvester Company in 1960 following 30 years’ service. He was a member of UAW Local 42. Survived by his wife, Charlotte (Lottie) Peters Hughel; one son, James E. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ervin Glenn Humphrey; one brother, Billie Thompson; and one granddaughter, Glenna Karen Ellis. She is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Tomma and Arnold Lewis of Scottown, one brother and sister-in-law, Lon B. and Mary Evelyn Thompson of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Audrey Thompson on Cincinnati; four beloved grandchildren, Larry and Tim Day, Becky Gilpin, and Jason Ellis, all of Chesapeake; and two special gretat-grandchildren, Megan Gilpin and Joshua Day, both of Chesapeake. He was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Asco, W.Va., to Ralph H. and Dessie (Bishop) Hylton. A veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Army, he moved to the Marengo area in 1974 from Grove City. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Virginia “Jenny” (Lake); sons, Van R. (Heather) Hylton of Delaware and Vernon (Angela) Hylton of Cardington; a daughter, Venus (John) Cooner of Groveport; five grandchildren, Steven, Hannah, Derek, John and Jennifer; a brother, Jim Hylton of Rogersville, Tenn.; and a sister, Sadie Underwood of Wise, Va. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; and two sisters, Violet Latham and Velva Chapman. Hysell Chet 1982 Columbus Dispatch – Columbus, Ohio Thursday, July 29, 1982 PLANE CRASH KILLS SINGER, 11 OTHERS Lindale, Texas (AP) – A twin engine plane carrying five more passengers than it was designed to hold crashed in flames shortly after takeoff and killed all 12 people aboard, including eight children and a singer of religious music, authorities said. The Cessna 424, leased by the Last Day Ministries here, crashed in a wooded area Wednesday night after departing from a private airstrip near this town about 90 miles east of Dallas. The plane was en route to a Dallas airport where members of one family were to connect with a commercial flight, said ministry spokesman Larry DeGraff. “I can’t say it was overloaded until I know the size of the bodies, the amount of fuel, the amount of luggage”, said Randy Brooks, a Federal Aviation Administration investigator from Shreveport, LA. However, Brooks said the plane’s manual specified it had seven seats and a toilet. Police and church officials identified the dead as Christian music singer Keith Gordon Green, 27, his daughter, Bethany Grace Green, 2, and his son, Josiah David Green, 2, all of Lindale, TX; Deidre M. Smalley, 37, her son by a previous marriage, Chet Allen Hysell, 12, twins James and John Smalley, 7, Daniel Henry Smalley, 4,  Timothy Neil Smalley, 2, Kathren Elizabeth Smalley, 2, all of Simi Valley, Ca; and pilot Don Burmeister, 36 of Lindale, TX. “It cleared the runway.  It cleared an open field about a quarter mile long.  It went over a wooded area and clipped some trees.  On impact it caught fire”, said Smith County Deputy Larry Willbanks. Willbanks said the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

Hysell -Seventy-four years old, 2111 Seventh Avenue, who died at his home yesterday, will be buried in Highlawn Cemetery following funeral service’s tomorrow at 2 pm at Kincaid Mortuary. Mr. Hysell, a retired stationary engineer, had been employed at Standard Ultramarine Company for 23 years before his retirement in 1944. He was a member of the Association of Stationary Engineers. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Isabelle Reynolds Hysell; two sons, Emory and Donald Hysell at home, and a brother, W.W. Hysell of Huntington.
