Dick Lambert First Civil War Casualty

A Lawrence Countian who gave his life for his county in the Battle of Scary, WV, in 1861 was later honored when the present Dick Lambert Post, National Woman’s Relief Corps, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, selected a name for its organization in 1886.

Richard Lambert enlisted in the Civil War in 1861, and he was only killed on July 17 of that year. It was Ironton, Ohio’s first casualty of the Civil War. Today his body rests in a beautiful Woodland Cemetery, and his memory is carried on by the Woman’s Relief Corps, 115.

The local organization is dedicated to fraternity, charity, and loyalty and lists a membership at this time 44.
