Indenture Apprentice

This Indenture made this 5th day of March 1832, between Elisha B. Greene, John McKee, and Andrew P. Koons, Trustees of Fayette Township, Lawrence County, of the one part and Joseph Davidson of same place of the other part, witnesseth, whereas it appears to said Trustees, that for Albert Ellison, a minor son of Wm. Ellison, aged 15 yrs 19th Feb. 1832 – is a destitute child and not provided for by his parents, but has been abandoned by them and left in this Township.

Therefore the said  Trustees have placed and by these presents [sic] do place and bind outside Albert an apprentice to said Joseph Davidson to be taught and instructed in the art mistery [sic] & occupation of farming and agriculture [next page, 14] and to live with and serve him as an apprentice from the day of the date hereof until he shall arrive to the age of twenty-one years, which will be on 19 Feb. 1838.

And the said Trustees do by these presents, [sic] give to him, the said Joseph Davidson, all the power of attorney over said Albert Ellison and all the rights to his services, which by law a master has over an apprentice, duly bound to him for and during the term of said apprenticeship, pursuant to the Statute in such case made and provided.

And the said Joseph Davidson in consideration of the premises, covenants and agrees to and with said Trustees, and with the said Albert by himself respectively as well, as jointly that he will teach said Albert the occupation of husbandry or farming.

Also to read and write and cypher to include the single rule of three furnish said miner with a new Bible, and at least two suits of common wearing apparel at the expiration of said Term and if said Albert remains with him to the expiration of said term, he future promises to give him seventy-five dollars in cash and perform generally the duties of a master to a servant during the Term.
