Captain Noah Scoville

The Weekly Caucasian, Shreveport, Louisiana 23 March 1905 – Captain Noah Scoville – A Popular steam boatman Has Been Called to His Reward – After a long and useful life Captain Noah Scoville died at his home near Sybene, Lawrence county, Ohio, Wednesday, March 15, age 73 years.

He was ranked the best and most popular steamboatman and was held in the highest esteem by the people of the Red River and its tributaries. He was in the full sense of the word a man, of noble, chivalrous nature, and his hand was, ever opened to acts and deeds of kindness.

He was in full sympathy with the South during the four years struggle of the Confederacy, doing active service on the river with his steamboat.

His brother, Captain M. L. Scoville, his sisters, Mrs. E. McClure of this city, and Mrs. Rachel Dillon of Ohio are the nearest relatives, with Captain William Dillon of this city, who was his nephew.

Captain M. L. Scoville, his brother, was at his side when he was called to his heavenly reward.
