Another Steamboat for the Kaw – the many friends and the business community at this and other points on the Kaw River will be glad to learn that O.G. Chase, formerly of this city and now of South Point, OH, is at present building a Steamboat there to ply between Wyandotte and any other city on said river that can be reached by steam.
Mr. Chase’s family and many other persons intend to come round from Ohio on the new Steamboat, which will arrive here at the latter end of March or the commencement of April.
Mr. Chase’s steamer will be about 75 tons burthen, draw 9 inches of water, and be calculated to run 10 miles an hour. By boat, wheels will only require to be half the usual height, and the power of the machinery will be lessened in the same ratio. With these two changes, he can run his boat 150 miles on three cords of wood. The whole cabin will weigh only 5500 pounds and can seat 100 people. Mr. Chase affirms that he will run his Steamboat if he receives $0.25 per 100 pounds of freight.
