Notorious West Virginia Moonshiner Caught at Louisa – 1920

R. A. Stone arrested a man her Wednesday evening said to be known as the “king bee” amongst moonshiners and bootleggers in Boone county, WV. His name is Roman Burgess, alias James Thompson. He is under sentence of two years in the penitentiary and sawed his way out of the jail at Madison recently. There is a $100 reward for him.

When arrested he had two bottles of moonshine and in his traveling, the bag was a worm for a still. The grand jury here had indicted him for having the goods in his possession.[1]
