U.S. Marshall Geo. W. Castle, of Grayson and a posse, captured a large moonshine plant last Thursday. It was located on Devil’s Fork, Elliott county about twelve miles from Sandy Hook and was being operated by French [Frank?-mm] Stamper.
He had erected a building and had it equipped for the business. They dropped down on the place at 2 a.m. and captured Stamper while at work. He had a 125-gallon copper still and in the building were 1,000 gallons of beer 30 gallons of middling and a large quantity of material.
Stamper was taken to Grayson where he is now in jail. Stamper has given the revenue officers lots of bothers. He was arrested five years ago on a moonshining charge and was placed in the Morgan county jail at West Liberty, but after a few days’ incarcerations, he broke jail and liberated all the other prisoners and had never been apprehended until last Thursday.[1]
