Moonshine Stories 1953

Three Stills Found in Hills Near Ironton – Federal agents and Sheriff Carl Rose of Lawrence County, Ohio, raided three moonshine stills in the hills near the Ohio River Friday, the first such raid near Ironton in more than a year. The agents, secretly watching the stills for more than a week, failed to capture the operators.

They destroyed the stills, 26 barrels of mash, and more than five gallons of raw moonshine. The stills located in the Bear Creek area 10 miles north of Ironton near Greasy Ridge were of 60, 120, and 180-gallon capacities. The largest was in a barn of an abandoned farm.
