Beatrice Did Not Get a Whiff of “Licker”; Notifies Police: Miller Arrested; Fines- December 1921
When the case of John Miller, colored, 44 years old, charged with selling intoxicating liquor, was called for trial in Municipal court Tuesday, the accused changed his plea from not guilty to guilty and Judge McCall ordered him to pay a fine of $100 and costs after hearing the circumstances which brought about Miller’s arrest.
The evidence indicated that Miller had not sold any liquor but that he bought a half pint with money which Mrs. Beatrice West gave him when he proposed that: they put on a drunk.” After securing the liquor it developed that Miller acted the “hog” and emptied the vial without even offering Mrs. West even a small. She then became miffed and complained to the police.[1]
