Some two weeks ago, a colored woman named Clara Jones made information before Mayor Volz against a black man named William Erbie, charging him with passing on her two counterfeit $10 notes on the “Iron Bank,” of Ironton, Ohio. She also informed the Mayor that Erbie had left the city and gone to Baltimore.
Mayor Volz immediately communicated with the mayor of Baltimore, who placed the matter in the hands of the police, and last week informed Mayor Volz that he had succeeded in apprehending the black man, Erbie. On Thursday last, Officers Bougher and Moon were sent to Baltimore with the necessary papers.
It is believed that Ebrie has been extensively passing this Ironton money, as a great deal of it is in circulation. He was, prior to his departure from the city, a cook in the eating saloon of S. N. Pickings, on Market street. Another piece of information has been made against him by John Quincy.
