Over a Cliff – Went to A Party, and Hagerman and Wife Will Probably Died
Gazette-News-Current, Xenia, Ohio, 14 July 1897, pg 6 – Huntington, WV, July 13 – At Getaway, Ohio, this morning, Hiram Hagerman, his wife, and two little children were coming down a steep embankment driving a fractious young horse, when the harness broke, causing the buggy to dash forward on the animal.
The horse leaped forward, and buggy, and all four occupants were thrown over a precipice 18 feet high. Strange to say, neither of the children was injured, but both the father and mother were unconscious. When removed from the debris, both Mr. Hagerman’s legs were found to be broken, and his wife’s shoulder was dislocated, and she was dangerously injured internally. It is hardly probable that either will recover.
