Stephen A. Massie

Stephen A. Massie was the seventh child of Jonathan and Margaret (Roach) Massie.  He was born in Mason Township on January 1, 1840. 

He lived with his parents until he was twenty-four years of age when he was married to Rebecca F. Fox, who was born Walnut Township, Gallia County, Ohio, on June 29, 1843. 

They settled on the farm on which they still reside, which consists of 140 acres of splendid farming land. 

Stephen Massie was a member of the First Virginia Artillery but was discharged for disability, but he then enlisted in the 173d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company B, in which regiment he served till the close of the war.  The parents of Mrs. Massie are Emer and Sarah (Baker) Fox. 

The children of Mr. Massie are: 

  • George B. McClellan, born August 20, 1864;
  • Robert O., December 3, 1867;
  • Emmor M., January 4, 1871;
  • Norman W., November 16, 1872;
  • Sarah L., December 12, 1874;
  • Willis V., February 21, 1877;
  • Dellie E., May 18, 1879. 

They all reside in MasonTownship.  The date of Mr. Massie’s marriage was February 28, 1863. 

The principal crops which Mr. Massie raises on his farm are corn, wheat, oats, potatoes, and hay.  He is also the raiser of hogs and cattle to a considerable extent.  His post office address is Greasy Ridge, Lawrence County, Ohio.
