Peter McCarty was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, on October 10, 1849. He is a resident of Aid Township; by occupation, he is a collier.
His parents, John and Hannah (Yates) McCarty, settled in this county in 1820.
Peter McCarty was a soldier in the war of the rebellion. He enlisted in Company I, 31st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on the first of June, 1861, and served four years and ten months.
He endured some very hard service and was wounded in the left knee at the Battle of Chickamauga. He was taken to the hospital where he remained four months when he returned to his regiment and served to the close of the war, receiving an honorable discharge, and returned home.
