Lorenzo D. Morrison

Lorenzo D. Morrison was a person thought considerably of in his county, as is shown by the number of times he has been elected to serve their interests.  He was a county commissioner of Lawrence county in 1871.  He was treasurer of Rome township for twelve consecutive years; was also a trustee of Rome township for several years.

His parents, Richard and Mary Morrison were born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, and were married in that county, on March 14, 1814.  They emigrated to Union township, this county, where they resided the most of their lives, the mother dying there.  His father then came to this township, where he spent the remainder of his days.

Lorenzo was born in West Virginia, on January 19, 1819.  He conducted a general merchandise business in Bradricksville from 1848 to 1854, when he went farming a few years, returning to business life in Rome township in 1857, continuing till 1860, when he sold his business and returned to his farm, where he is still to be found.

He has in his own name 150 acres, mostly all good farmland; he has about thirty acres in fruit.  The Rome Beauty apple originated in the yard now owned by Mr. Morrison.  The original tree blew down and was cut up by him.

Mr. Morrison was married to Margaret J. Crawford in Greenup County, Kentucky, on March 7, 1850.  She was born in Fayette township, this county, on March 10, 1832.  Her parents were John Crawford, born in 1800, and Mary (Suiter) Crawford, born in 1812, died July 1867.  The father was born in Ireland and the mother in this county.  They were married in 1831.  Mr. Morrison’s father was born June 1, 1796, and died in 1871.  His mother was born on November 1, 1793, and died June 19, 1853.  The year of their settlement in this county was 1823.

The children of Lorenzo Morrison are:

  • Mary V., born January 1852, died February 1852;
  • Alexander D., May 1854, resides at home;
  • Ida May (Feurt), April 1859, resides in Proctorville;
  • Edgar D., October 1869, resides at home.
