George Heine* was born in Göttingen, Germany, on December 3, 1813.  He was married in Alleghany County, Pennsylvania, on August 20, 1848, to Magdalina Hoeffner, who was born in Strasburg, Germany, on February 8, 1828.

They have the following children:

  • George, born September 19, 1849, is a proprietor of the East Ironton House.
  • Caroline, born September 4, 1851, resides at home.
  • William H., born September 24, 1853, resides at home.
  • Louise, born July 17, 1855, died April 1, 1859.
  • Henry, born December 30, 1856, resides in this county.
  • Sarah (Washburn, Jr.), born September 26, 1858, resides in Lawrence County, Ohio.
  • Magdalene (Ballard), born June 27, 1859, resides in this county.
  • Elizabeth, born February 26, 1862, resides at home.
  • Mary, born January 6, 1865, resides at home.
  • Edward, on February 4, 1867, resides at home.

The parents of Mr. Heine were Henry and Mrs. Heine, both of whom died in Germany.  George and Barbara (Halt) Hoeffner are the parents of Mrs. Heine.  Mr. Heine died on May 18, 1874.  His son, William H., has taken charge of the farm since his father’s death.  He is a very industrious young man and has been very successful in the management of the farm.  He makes fruit-raising and gardening a specialty.

William H. made a trip to Florida in 1878, where he engaged in fruit-raising and gardening, and he gathered a good amount of information.  He returned in 1879—making the trip with his team.

Louise, the second daughter of Mr. Heine, met her death in a very sad manner: when about 4 years of age she was playing with her brother William, where her father had been burning some stumps, and getting too close to the fire her clothes ignited, and before any assistance could come to her, she was frightfully burned, and she died six hours after the accident.

The mother of Mrs. Heine died in July 1835.  The post office address of William Heine is Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio.

*Note from Martha: George Heine kept the original spelling of his last name, but according to Woodland Cemetery Burial Records, his wife and children are buried under the last name spelling of Heiner.
