Dr. Andrew Clark Lowrey

Dr. Lowry Ironton, OhioMorning Irontonian 2 March 1924 – Dr. Andrew Clark Lowry, age 54, passed away at his home on South Fifth Street Saturday when he suffered a stroke while at the Marting Hotel. He was born on March 4, 1870,

in West Virginia and after completing his education entered the Louisville Medical College from which he graduated, later taking post-graduate

course course in New York City.

On Feb. 10, 1897, he married Miss Nellie Marting, daughter of Col. H. A. Marting and for more than 20 years was actively engaged in the practice of medicine in this city. No children were born into this marriage and the widow is left to mourn. He is also survived by his father Lee Lowry, of Lowry Farm, near Kitts Hill, one sister, Mrs. Alice Barger, also of Lowry Farm, and one brother Dr. J. W. Lowry of this city.

Another sister Dr. Sadie Lowry died a few years ago. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. Dr. A. C. Lowrey, president of Marting Iron & Steel Co., Ironton, Ohio, died in that city on March 1, after a long illness.

He was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, 54 years ago and graduated in medicine from the Eclectic College, Cincinnati. After practicing in Lawrence County for several years he moved to Ironton, where he continued to practice with much success.

Twenty years ago he married Nellie Marting, daughter of the late Col. H.  A. Marting, who survives. Dr. Lowrey took an active part in political life, serving two years in the State Legislature. He was financially interested in practically all of the industries of Ironton and upon the reorganization of the Martin Iron & Steel Co., in 1921 was elected president, which position he filled until his death.

NOTE: The Marlow Theater and Hotel were named as a combination of Marting + Lowry. His father-in-law built the Marting Hotel (now Park Avenue Apartments) and owned the legendary Big Etna Furnace, later Marting Iron and Steel.
