Augustus C. Handley is a native of this county and township, born January 10, 1845. He is the son of Constantine and Mary (Roach) Handley. The latter died on April 11, 1882.
He served his country in the war of 1861. He enlisted on December 20, 1862, in the 8th Independent Sharpshooters. He served to the close of the war.
He was married to Julia A. Ferguson, in Wayne County, West Virginia, on August 1, 1872. She is the daughter of Thomas and Phereba (Lyons) Ferguson and was born in Louisa, Lawrence County, Kentucky, on November 14, 1856.
They have two children, namely:
- Constantine, born May 14, 1873
- Lindsey G., February 29, 1876
The grandparents of A. C. Handley were William and Margaret (Henderson) Handley. They were both born in Monroe County, Virginia, and died in the same county.
