Adolphus W. Hurt

Adolphus W. Hurt and Elizabeth Whitehead were married in Lawrence County, Ohio June 3, 1862.  Mr. Hurt was born in Augusta County, Virginia, on November 6, 1833, and his wife was in this county on December 19, 1838.

The following are their children:

  • Isaac K., born July 20, 1864, resides at home.
  • Albert C., on November 24, 1866, died August 10, 1871.
  • Dora E., on September 16, 1868, died September 16, 1869.
  • Amanda F., on February 24, 1870, resides at home.
  • Harrison W., on October 6, 1871, died December 31, 1871.
  • Jessie C., on May 22, 1873, resides at home.
  • Samuel W., on  November 19, 1874, died August 14, 1875.
  • Ira S., on September 2, 1878, resides at home.

Cornelius Hurt, the father of Adolphus, was born in Madison County, Virginia, on October 10, 1802, and came to this county in 1835.  He died on February 24, 1861. 

Mary J. Hurt, the mother of Adolphus, was born in Augusta County, Virginia, on October 28, 1801, and died March 20, 1876.  They came to this county in 1835.  The parents of Mrs. Hurt are Samuel and Martha (Bates) Whitehead.  The first was born in Halifax County, Virginia, on May 16, 1805, and came to this county in 1830; he died October 10, 1881.  The mother of Mrs. Hurt, Martha Whitehead, was born in the same county and State, February 8, 1808, and is living at the age of 74 years.

Mr. Hurt has held the office of township clerk from 1862 to 1874.  He is engaged in farming and school-teaching in Fayette Township.  Address, Burlington, Lawrence County, Ohio.
