The photo below is a copy of the Certificate to Obtain a Marriage License in Cabell County, VA [WV] on August 7, 1859, in Guyandotte, the capital of Cabell County at that time. This license was between C. H. Moxley (occupation Editor) and Virginia A. Smith. C. H. Moxley was 23 years old, and Virginia A. Smith was 19. They were both single, having never married before. Virginia was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, and was the daughter of Austin Smith. It does not name Virginia’s mother’s name.C. H. Moxley was born in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Thank you A.K. for your comment, and I will fix the error. I have Smith’s in my family coming from Wilks County, NC into Lewis, Greenup and Carter County, Ky. My gggrandfather was William Smith….so much fun!

Jeez, I need to figure out who this Austin is. DNA seems to point to him being a son, or nephew, of Augustine Smith. That being said, the DNA could be “contaminated” with Matthews DNA.
BTW, you wrote that Virginia´s father was as “Editor”. It says that is the occupation of her husband, C. H. Moxley.
