Stanley McKee: The Marion Power Shovel company used to have a location in Ironton. They made the tracks for the crawlers that haul the rockets out to the launch pad at Cape Kennedy! Each link in those tracks weighs 1 ton!
Lisa Jean: We visited the Cape soon after a launch when they brought the crawler back to storage. We were on a double-decker bus, and we could have driven under it unscathed! ? and yes, they did mention that each of those track pieces weighs a full ton!
Lisa Jean: I stood right next to one of the crawlers during a tour of the cape back in 69, and at that time, I noticed on one of the tracks cast into the iron it said “Marion Power Shovel Co. Ironton, Ohio.” I brought it to the attention of my dad, who worked for Dayton Malleable Iron in Ironton, and the tour guide asked me why that was so interesting, and I told him Ironton was where we were from.
Rebecca Jo Crisp Walker: Looks like clay could be the hill above the Ashland bridge, being hauled down to Carlisle Tile factory! It sat on the River bank close to Coal Grove. I can see the tracks like we’re on the bridge above Rt.52.
