The story below does not pertain to the above photo. I just added it for the reader to enjoy.
- Ironton Register Apr. 6, 1905 – Common Pleas Court – The much talked about electric light pole case, in which Thos. L. Collett and the Camden Interstate company were the participants and, which has been watched with great interest by the citizens of Ironton, has at last been settled by the company taking the pole down.
- Thursday afternoon Judge Milner ordered the Sheriff to remove the pole in case the company did not do so. Still, at an early hour Saturday, the Camden Company had a force of men at work taking the pole down, which was completed sometime before noon.
- The case resulted from the Camden Company placing a large electric light pole on the sidewalk in front of Mr. Collett’s residence some two or three years ago and has been pending in the courts since.
- Until lately, there has been some doubt about the right of electric companies to place poles in front of residences, but the ruling of higher courts of late has settled such cases in favor of the property holders. It seems that the disputed matter narrowed down to the owner of the sidewalk and shade trees. – J. O. Yates was the attorney for the plaintiff, and A. R. Johnson for the Camden Company.
