1891 Quadrennial Enumerations

The 1891 Quadrennial Enumerations are available online at familysearch.org on Film # 008193797. 1895 is currently in the progress of being typed and will be added as soon as it is completed. I will announce updates on The Lawrence Register Facebook Group. If you are not a member, please answer the two questions so I can accept your membership.

These records are posted in remembrance of our great friend from San Antonio, Texas, the late Ken Clark. In 2000, he discovered these records and typed about half of the 1895 census before passing away. His wishes were to help other researchers. Ken was one of the kindest people I had ever met. We miss him a lot.

Note to Researcher from Martha:
The Quadrennial Enumeration provides a population count for each county. The count was used for dividing the counties into election districts to provide representatives for the Ohio General Assembly.

The Lawrence County, Ohio Quadrennial Enumerations returns include 1891, 1895, 1899, 1903, and 1907. For 1891 the population record for all the townships was compiled in a single volume. The other years were recorded with individual volumes by township, or in large townships, by precinct.

There is a target at the beginning of each volume stating the township name precinct (if any), followed by the year of the enumeration.

The record contains the name of every male over twenty-one, his race, occupation, and whether he was a freeholder of land in the county. The volumes are arranged alphabetically by township, numerically by ward, and therein alphabetically.

NOTE: Any names marked with * were questionably in the spelling of that person-Martha
