This index of typed obituaries range in dates from 1902 – 2011 and was compiled by David Parsons, who wished it to be shared on ‘The Lawrence Register’ website.

These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is important material for the genealogist.

Zimmerman Beulah Moore 1986 Ironton Tribune – (Friday, August 29, 1986)   Beulah Zimmerman, 84, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday at her residence. She was born July 14, 1902, in Lawrence County, Ohio. She was a lifelong member of Rockwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Zimmerman. Survivors include one half-sister, Mrs. Nick (Thelma) Barcus of Huntington, WV; and one half brother, Eustice Blower of Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the Schneider Funeral Home by Rev. Homer Webb. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Friends make call at the Funeral Home from 6 to 9 PM Saturday.
Zimmerman Calvin P 1930 Ironton Tribune – (Wednesday, March 26, 1930)    Zimmerman – Calvin Zimmerman, 66, farmer died at 4:20 o’clock this morning at his home near Scottown. Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his widow and 12 children, the youngest 16 years of age and his death is the first in the family. The funeral service will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 o’clock at the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. J Melvin of Coal Grove. Burial will be in the Perkins Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Undertaker Phillips of Waterloo.    
Ironton Tribune – (Friday, March 28, 1930)     Zimmerman – Calvin Zimmerman, age 66 years, fruit grower and farmer, died at his home near Scottown Wednesday at 4:20 a.m. after a two-year illness. His death was expected yet came as a great shock to friends as he was the first death to occur in a large family. Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his widow (Elizabeth) and the following children; J. (James) R. Zimmerman of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Ernest (Cora) Dunfee and John Zimmerman of Proctorville, Mrs. R. (Roland) G. (Nellie) Wells (Will) of Danville, Ky., and Mrs. Albert (Nora) Fuchs of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. F.M. (Sarah) Powers, Mrs. M.R. (Lillie) Stone and William Zimmerman of Huntington, Mary, Sylvia, Loren and Elizabeth Zimmerman of home. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at 11 o’clock at Perkins Ridge Church, where Mr. Zimmerman had been a member for 30 years. Rev. Joe Melvin of Coal Grove will officiate at the rites and burial will be made in Perkins Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Undertaker Phillips of Waterloo.
Zimmerman Elizabeth Tagg 1946 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Tuesday, July 2, 1946)    Mrs. Elizabeth Zimmerman – Seventy-six years old, of Chesapeake, died Sunday at her home, will be buried in Perkins Ridge Cemetery following funeral services at 2 PM today at the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. William Coddle. Born March 20, 1870, near St. Louis, Mo., and the daughter of James and Sarah Tagg, she was the widow of the late Calvin P. Zimmerman who died March 26, 1930. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, of Scottown, Ohio. Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Cora) Dunfee of Chesapeake, Mrs. F.M. (Mary) Powers, Mrs. J. (James) V. (Sylvia) Callahan and Mrs. M.R. (Lillie) Stone of Huntington, Mrs. R. (Roland) J. (Nellie) Will of New Paltz, N.Y,, Mrs. Albert (Nora) Fuchs of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Elizabeth Zimmerman, at home; four sons, R. (Robert) J. Zimmerman of Columbus, Ohio, John Zimmerman of Chesapeake, W. (William) J. Zimmerman of Huntington, and Loren Zimmerman of Scottown, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. John Faulkner of Miller, Ohio 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.   Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Wednesday, July 3, 1946)     Mrs. Elizabeth Zimmerman – Seventy-six years old of Chesapeake, who died Sunday at her home, will be buried in Perkins Ridge Cemetery following funeral services at 2:30 PM today at the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. William Coddle.
Zimmerman James R 1975 Columbus Dispatch – (Saturday, April 12, 1975)      Zimmerman   James Robert Zimmerman, age 86, of 145 E. Blake Ave. Retired from Columbus Government Depot. Survived by daughters, Mrs, Edward (Cora) Kiner of Columbus, Mrs. George (Mary) Bailey of Westerville, Ohio, Mrs. Rossell (Mae) Stephens of Proctorville, Ohio; sons, Calvin of Columbus and Robert of Ashland, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 14  great-grandchildren; 5 sisters; 1 brother; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Rd. Westerville, Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. from the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church in Scottown, Ohio. Interment in Perkins Ridge Cemetery.
Zimmerman John C 1973 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Thursday, June 7, 1973)   Mr. John C. Zimmerman, 72, of 2nd Ave., Chesapeake, OH, died Tuesday at his home of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at Schneider Funeral Home at Chesapeake by the Rev. Homer Webb and Rev. Richard Tanner. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. He was born January 31, 1901 in Lawrence Co, Ohio, a son of the late Calvin P. and Elizabeth Tagg Zimmerman. He was a member of the Cedar Point Baptist Church of South Point, attended Rockwood Baptist Church at Chesapeake. For 48 years he owned and operated the Ice Delivery Service in Chesapeake and vicinity. For 24 years he was the Union Township Trustee. He was active in local civic affairs. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Dunfee, Mary Zimmerman and Sarah Powers and a brother, Bill Zimmerman. Survivors include the wife, Beulah Moore Zimmerman; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hesson of Chesapeake, Mrs. Sylva Callahan and Mrs. Lillie Stone, both of Huntington, Mrs. Nora Fuchs of Royal Oak, Mich. and Mrs. Nellie Will of Lexington, Mass.; two brothers, Loren Zimmerman of Scottown, Ohio and Robert Zimmerman of Columbus, Ohio. Zimmerman Loren 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Saturday, Nov 15, 2003) LOREN ZIMMERMAN, 94, of Chesapeake, widower of Mary Zimmerman, died Friday in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was a retired Lawrence County school principal. Arrangements incomplete at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville.  
Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, Nov 16, 2003)      LOREN ZIMMERMAN – February, 10 1909 – November 14, 2003   Chesapeake – Loren Frederick Zimmerman, 94, of Chesapeake, formerly of Scottown, widower of Mary Zimmerman, passed away Friday, November 14, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, from complications of pneumonia. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, November 17, 2003, at Perkins Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Willow Wood, with Pastor David Day and the Rev. Glenn Carmon officiating. Viewing will be noon to 1 PM Monday at the church. He was born February 10, 1909, the youngest son of the late Calvin and Elizabeth Zimmerman. It was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught 15 years in one room schools and 15 years as a principal. He also was a retired Nationwide Insurance Company agent. He was a member of Perkins Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, where he served many years as a trustee. He was instrumental in establishing the permanent care fund for Perkins Ridge Cemetery, which was a very satisfying accomplishment for him. He was very hard working, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary, whom he married December 18, 1937; brothers, Robert, Bill and John Zimmerman; sisters, Cora Dunfee, Sarah Powers, Mary Zimmerman, Lillian Stone, Sylvia Callahan, Nellie Will and Nora Fuch; a son-in-law, Carl Webb; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Carter Zimmerman. He is survived by his son, John Zimmerman and life, Brenda, of Chesapeake; daughters, Vera Webb, with whom he made his home after the passing of his wife on January 3, 2003; Ruby Hessen and husband, Gary of Chesapeake, and Nancy Schafer and husband Kevin, of Marco Island, Fla. He also had two granddaughters, Lori Finley and husband, Randy, of Chesapeake, and Shelley Hessen of Raritan, N.J.; three grandsons, Travis Zimmerman, Steven Zimmerman and Kurt Schafer; two great-grandsons, Justin Finley and Trent Finley; one sister, Elizabeth Hessen and many nieces and nephews. His wonderful caretakers for the last few months have been Dolly Julian, Allan Dennison and Nora Walker, who made it possible for him to stay at home. Zimmerman Mary – 1937 Ironton Tribune – (Thursday, August 5, 1937)  Miss Mary Zimmerman – funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock for Miss Mary Zimmerman, 43 years old, of Scottown, who died Wednesday night at 5:30 o’clock at the home of her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Zimmerman, following a lingering illness. The service will be held at the residence and burial will be in Perkins Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Undertaker Phillips. Mr. Zimmerman is survived by her mother and several brothers and sisters, John of Proctorville, William of Huntington, Robert of Columbus, Loren of at home, Mrs. Ernest Dunfee of Chesapeake, Mrs. F.M. Power of Huntington, Mrs. M.R. Stone of Ceredo, Mrs. James Callahan of Huntington, Mrs. Roland Will of the Platz, N.Y., Mrs. Albert Fuchs of Detroit and Elizabeth at home. The body was removed to the residence late yesterday.
Zimmerman Mary Murdock 2003 Huntington Herald Disaptch – (Sunday, Jan 05, 2003)   MARY ELLEN MURDOCK ZIMMERMAN, 90, of Chesapeake, formerly of Scottown, Ohio, wife of Loren Zimmerman, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at home. She was born July 3, 1912, in Chesapeake, a daughter of the late John Clifford and Adella Brammer Murdock. She was a retired schoolteacher from Lawrence County, Ohio, and member of Perkins Ridge Church. Mary was a most loving, kind and gentle wife, mother and grandmother. She also was preceded in by a son-in-law, Carl Webb; daughter-in-law, Deborah Carter Zimmerman; and baby sister, Hilda. Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John and Brenda Zimmerman of Chesapeake; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Vera Webb of Chesapeake, Ruby and Gary Hesson of Chesapeake and Nancy and Kevin Schafer of Marco Island, Fla.; two granddaughters, Lori Finley and Shelley Hesson; three grandsons, Travis and Steven Zimmerman and Kurt Schafer; and two great-grandsons, Justin and Trent Finley. Funeral 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Perkins Ridge Church, Scottown, Ohio, with the Rev. David Day and the Rev. Glen Carmon officiating; burial in Perkins Ridge Cemetery. Zimmerman Mildred Hagley 2006 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Mar 28, 2006)   MILDRED LOUISE ZIMMERMAN, 84, of Proctorville, Ohio, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, March 26, 2006, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Robert Barbour. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. She was born July 9, 1921, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Cecil and Wilda Hagley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Zimmerman; and two sisters Edna Harrison and Frances Rucker. Mildred was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by one son Keith Zimmerman of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Missy Zimmerman both of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two sisters, Fern and Ed Spotloe, and Margueritte Ball, all of Proctorville; one brother-in-law, Eugene Harrison; and special nieces and nephews Leah Harrison, Pat (Rick) Edmunds, Bruce and Mike Ball, and Rick (Pat) Zimmerman. Zuzzio Lilly M 1988 IRONTON TRIBUNE – (Thursday, December 15, 1988) LILLY M. ZUZZIO Lilly M. Zuzzio, 75, of Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of Chesapeake, died Saturday at her residence. She was born November 17, 1913, in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Elton and Martha Pruitt Ferris. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Grezik. Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Aylor of Ormond Beach; three sisters, Goldie Conley of Chesapeake, Ellen Blevins of Huntington and Florence Hastings of Proctorville; 7 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia.
