These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is important material for the genealogist.

Vanhoose Gary L 2001 The Herald Dispatch – Huntington, WV – (Tuesday, January 30, 2001) Gary Lee Vanhoose, 57, of Easy Lynn, husband of Carolyn K. Vanhoose, died Friday at home. He was a machinist for CSX and later a self employed carpenter. Also surviving are mother, Myrtle Marie Adkins Vanhoose Fraley of Huntington; two daughters, Lisa R. Gill of Jacksonville Beach, Fla, and Sheila R. Hunt of Logansville, Ga.; and two brothers, Darrell Vanhoose and Delbert Vanhoose, both of Huntington. Veatch H Elizabeth Garrison 1983 Anderson Herald Bulletin – Monday, October 03, 1983 H. Elizabeth “Peggy” H, 71, 1315 W. 10th St., died Sunday in Community Hospital after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson. She worked as a sales clerk at Montgomery Ward for many years. Surviving are her husband Harry T. Veatch, and a sister Bernice Cooper of Perkinsville. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harold E. Roselle Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles A. Baker of Emmanuel United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. |
Veatch Harry T 1989 Anderson Herald Bulletin – Monday, November 20, 1989 Harry T. Veatch, 74, 1315 W. 10th St., died Saturday afternoon at Community Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Gottoes, Va., and had been a resident of Anderson for the past 53 years. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and was retired from the Pendleton Reformatory where he was a guard for 18 years. Survivors include one brother, Carroll Veatch, Huntington, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Veatch in 1983. Services will be Tuesday at 1 pm at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service. |
Veatch Wanda Dubbs 2009 Huntington County, Ind – (Saturday, September 19, 2009) Wanda Veatch, 91, of Huntington, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at 5:10 p.m. in her home. Mrs. Veatch had been co-owner of the First Street Dairy Queen with her husband from 1960 to 1969, and she also worked in the Huntington North High School cafeteria from 1970 to 1975. She wintered in Florida from 1978 to 2001. She was a member and on the Cradle Roll of the former Bethel Evangelical Church of Huntington, Royal Neighbors and first lady of the W.B.C.C.I., Walley Byam Caravan Club International, Fort Wayne unit 042. She was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Huntington to Charles M. and Myrtle Johnson Dubbs. She married Carroll Edward Veatch on June 30, 1938, in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death on June 11, 2007. Surviving are a son, Greg L. (Marie) Veatch, of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Janet V. Banker and Kay L. (Larry) Bishop, both of Huntington; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild. Calling is Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at 10 a.m., with one hour of calling before, at the mortuary, with Rev. Richard Frederick officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. She was born Oct. 5, 1912, in South Point, Ohio, daughter of the late Herbert and Nannie Sites McKee. She was also preceded in death by husbands John C. Arthur and Calhoun Viars; a sister, Venus Harless; and two brothers, Arthur E. and Lester E. McKee. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Billy Freeman of South Point, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Betty Arthur of Millersport, Ohio, and Larry D. and Sharon Arthur of Ashville, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Vincell, 88, of Route 2, Pedro, died Thursday evening at a local nursing home following an extended illness. She was born February 14, 1895, in Willow Wood, a daughter of the late John and Henrietta Hall Smith. She spent her life in Lawrence County and formerly taught school and was employed as a nurse at the old Marting Hospital. She attended the Old Locust Grove Church and was a member of the Cannon’s Creek Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (Bud) Vincell, April 1975, whom she married in 1927. Survivors include one sister, Delia Smith of Pedro and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 PM Saturday at the Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home by the Rev. James Cremeans; burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Vincell Henry G 1975 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, April 8, 1975) Henry Graham (Budd) Vincell, Jr., 89 of Cannons Creek, Pedro Route 2, died suddenly at 8:30 PM Monday at his residence. Born in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Henry Sr. and Helen Taylor Vincell. He came to Ohio at the age of nine years and had resided in Pedro area since that time. A member of the American Legion and Lawrence Barracks 1750, World War I Veterans, he was a self-employed sawmill operator. He married Augusta Smith on May 24, 1927. The widow and a sister, Mrs. Cora McConnell, survive in addition to several nieces and nephews. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home where friends may call Wednesday, 6 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery. |

He was a retired employee of the H.K. Porter Co. Born at Milton in 1889, he was the son of the late John and Bitha Neal Vititoe . He was a member of Mason Street Baptist Church of Milton. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mamie Bays Vititoe; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Edmonds of Culloden and Mrs. Howard Reynolds of Milton; a son, the Rev. Oliver Vititoe of Milton; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, George Vititoe of Frenchburg, Ky., Clinton Vititoe of Huntington; a sister, Mrs. Rosa Chapman of Huntington; four step daughters, Mrs. Okey Cart of Middleport, Ohio, Mrs. Pearl Neal of Culloden, Mrs. Edna Ramsey of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Katherine Ferrell of Huntington, and a stepson, Roy Roberts of Chester, Ohio.
