This index of typed obituaries range in dates from 1902 – 2011 and was compiled by David Parsons, who wished it to be shared on ‘The Lawrence Register’ website.

These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is important material for the genealogist.

Raison Clarisa Chaney 1997 Ironton Tribune – (Saturday, January 18, 1997)       Raison Anderson – Clarissa Irene (Chaney) Raison, 78, died January 16, 1997, at community Hospital after a brief illness. She was born December 15, 1918, in Anderson, and lived in Anderson all her life. She worked for Guide Division of General Motors during World War II. After the war, she was a homemaker. She loves spending time with her family and enjoy the simple things in life. She was a devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Meldrum Buck Raison; six grandchildren, John M. Raison, Lawrence ‘Larry’ Raison, and Carolyn Nash, all of Anderson, Mary Hallowell and Sandy Mason, both of Pendleton, and Freda Neff of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren, Krista Hallowell, Dustin Tomlin, Cory Tomlin, Miranda Tomlin, Amy Jo Raison, Heather Raison, Tom Marshall, Tammy Ehrlich, Tina Louise Neff, Tom Raison, Wayne Raison and Penny Fleming; five great-grandchildren, Ricky L. Raisin, Malea Fleming, Sean Marshall, Matthew Neal and Kaleigh Jo Raison; and several nieces and nephews.    She was preceded in death by her son, Eddie L. Raisin; daughter, Patricia Raison; two sisters, Helen Closser and Alberta Fosnot; and parents, Ed and Claudie (Chapel) Cheney. Services will be 1 PM Monday at Main Street Church of God, 4211 S. Main St., with the Rev. Glenn Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robert B. Loose Funeral home, South Chapel, and one hour prior to service Monday at the church.
Raison Meldrum 1997 Anderson Herald Bulletin – (Friday, January 31, 1997)  Raison       Anderson – Meldrum ‘Buck’ Raison, 81, died January 29, 1897, at his home after an extended illness. He was born September 13, 1915, Anderson, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. He retired in 1974 from Emge Packing Company after 41 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and turtle hunter. He and his wife celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary as patients at Community Hospital, January 5, 1997.   Survivors include six children, John M. Raison, Lawrence ‘Larry’ and Pat Raison, and Carolyn and Don Nash, all of Anderson, Mary and David Hallowell and Sandy and Frank Mason, all of Pendleton, and Freda and Dallas R. Neff of Indianapolis; three sisters, Margaret Thompson and Mary Belt, both of Anderson, and Bessie Kuhlmeier of Griffith; 12 grandchildren, Christa Hallowell, Dustin Tomlin, Cory Tomlin, Miranda Tomlin, Amy Jo Raison, Heather Raison, Tom Marshall, Tammy Ehrlich, Tina Louise Neff, Tom Raison, Wayne Raison, Penny Fleming; five great-grandchildren, Ricky L. Rambacher Edward J 1965 Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, April 25, 1965)     Rambacher Edward J. Rambacher, 77, of 1807 S. 8th St., a retired carpenter, died Saturday at 7 am in Lawrence County General Hospital after a brief illness. He was admitted to the Hospital Friday. Mr. Rambacher was born May 26, 1887 in Ironton, son of the late Anthony and Cecelia Reiter Rambacher. On August 19, 1910 he was united in marriage to Emma Doerr. He was a carpenter by trade, retiring in 1950. Surviving are, the wife, Mrs. Emma Rambacher; two sons, Clyde Rambacher of Ironton and Carl Rambacher of Massillon, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Ellen) Nichols of Ironton; a sister, Mrs. James (Alma) Bruce of Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm at Phillips Funeral Home with Minister Glen Wheeler officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between the hours of 6 to 9 pm tonight and 6 to 9 pm on Monday.
Rambacher Emma Doerr 1966 Ironton Tribune – Tuesday, February 12, 1966     Rambacher Mrs. Emma D. Rambacher, 78, of 1807 S. 8th St., died at 8:20 am today at Lawrence County General Hospital. Mrs. Rambacher was a lifelong resident of Ironton, born on February 12, 1888, a daughter of the late Henry and Phoebe Stapleton Doerr. On August 19, 1910, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Rambacher, who died in April 1965. Surviving are two sons, Clyde Rambacher of Ironton and Carl Rambacher of Massillon, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Nichols of Ironton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Charles Ruggles of Ashland, Ky. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home where friends will be received after 6 pm Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the Funeral home on Thursday at 2 pm by Minister Glen Wheeler. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Rambacher Virginia Tabor 2002 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Tuesday, Nov 12, 2002)    Rambacher VIRGINIA O. RAMBACHER, 86, of Ironton, widow of Clyde A. Rambacher, died Sunday at home. She was a retired certified public accountant with C.A. Rambacher & Co. and a homemaker. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church, Ironton; burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Visitation after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Ramey Estella Brammer 1979 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Monday, December 3, 1979) Ramey Mrs. Estella C. Ramey, 85, of South Point, Route 4, wife of Frank B. Ramey, died yesterday in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was the mother of Mrs. Leola Robertson of Bluff City , Tenn., Curtis H. White of Sarasota, Fla., and Herman F. Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, December 4, 1979) Mrs. Estella C. Ramey, 85, of South Point, Route 4, died Sunday, December 2, 1979, in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born July 4, 1895, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a daughter of the late W. Thomas and Nannie Booth Brammer. She was a member of the Burlington Baptist Church, a member of the Burlington Women’s Club of which she was a past president; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Burlington Fire Department and a member of Teresa Chapter, No. 257, Order of the Eastern star. Survivors include the husband, Frank B. Ramey, one daughter and Mrs. Leola Robertson of Bluff City, Tenn.; two sons, Curtis H. White of Sarasota, Florida, and Herman F. She was a homemaker and carrier for the Ironton Tribune. Survivors include one son, John Ransbottom of Chesapeake; two daughters, Kim Ransbottom and Karen Ransbottom, both of Chesapeake; and two sisters, Maxine Combs of Welcome, N.C., and Susie Lipps of Vermillion. Ransbottom Sarah Hardy 2007 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Sunday, Jul 15, 2007) Ransbottom SARAH ELIZABETH RANSBOTTOM, 86, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and beloved “Tommy” on Friday, July 13, 2007, at Rivers Bend Health Care. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2007, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Getaway Cemetery. Sarah was born October 25, 1920, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Isaac William Hardy and Cora Baise Hardy. She was a member of Big Branch Church and a 1938 graduate of Chesapeake High School. She is survived by four sons, Jim (Betty) Ransbottom, Lowell (Barbara) Ransbottom, Randall (Andrea) Ransbottom and Dennis Ransbottom and his friend Stephanie; 10 grandchildren, Jim, Tommy, Brent, Sammy and Shelley all of Chesapeake, Todd of Proctorville, Ohio, Becky of Huntington, W.Va., Carrie and Chelsea, both of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and Kathy of Colorado; five great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Patty Hardy of Chesapeake; and one sister, Mary Cregut of Huntington. Rapp James B 1961 Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, May 28, 1961)      James B. Rapp, Sr. Mr. Rapp, 53, of 1206 S. 8th, retired C and O yard brakeman, died at 3:30 am Saturday at his home after a three year illness. He was born in Rappsburg on August 19, 1907, son of the late Adolphus J.  and Edith G. Massey Rapp. Mr. Rapp spent his entire life in Lawrence County and attended Lawrence County Schools in Ironton High School. He was united in marriage on July 19, 1927 in Circleville to Evelyn Lee Akers, who survives. Mr. Rapp was a member of First Baptist Church, Modern Woodmen of America, Deering Grange No. 2564, and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He retired from C & O on September 1958, due to ill health. Surviving in addition to the wife, Evelyn are three children, James B. Rapp, Jr., Lowell D. Rapp and Mrs. Robert A. (Luree) Brown, all of Ironton; four grandchildren, Karen Luree Rapp, Ramona Gail Rapp, Paul Daniel Rapp and Heidi Christina Rapp, all of Ironton. And the following brothers and sisters, Dan C. Rapp and Mrs. Donald (Wellie) McConnell, both of Ironton, John Lowell Rapp of Athens, Ohio, Wilbur A. Rapp of California, Pa., Cosper M. Reed Betty Stephens 1994 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Sunday, May 1, 1994) BETTY REED – June 20, 1927 – April 29, 1994 Chesapeake – Betty J. Reed, 66, of Chesapeake died Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.  The Proctorville native was born June 20, 1927, the daughter of Stella Halleck Stephens Barry of Proctorville, who survives, and the late Ralph Stephens.  She was the wife of James O. Reed of Chesapeake, who survives.  She was a machine operator for the Perry-Norvell Shoe Co. for 35 years, a graduate of Windsor High School and a member of Rockwood Baptist Church.  She also was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Ray Stephens.  Other survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sisters, Mary ‘Midge’ Shephard of Hilliard, Selva Singer and Doris Sexton, both of Merritt Island, Fla., four brothers, Frank Stephens of Glendale, Ariz., Roger Stephens of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Ralph Stephens and Gary Stephens, both of Virginia Beach, Va. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Schneider Funeral Home in Chesapeake, with Rev. Jerry Galloway officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial; Gardens in South Point.  Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OWEN REED Mrs. Birdie Reed, 65, of Chesapeake, died this morning in Cabell-Huntington Hospital.  Mrs. Reed was born in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late James and Roxie Cassidy Huff.  Surviving are her husband, Owen Reed; a son, Jimmy of Chesapeake; two daughters, Mrs. Lahoma Graham of South Point and Mrs. Mary Smith of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; two brothers, Homer and Fred Huff of Chesapeake; one sister, Mrs. Lena Collins of Cleveland.  The body is at Schneider Funeral Home.  Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Clifford Suiter.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, January 22, 1971) MRS. Reed Elsie Roach 1958 Springfield Daily News – (Sunday, April 6, 1958)  Mrs. Ralph W. Reed Mrs. Elsie Roach Reed, 56, of 224 Glenn Ave., died 12:10 pm Saturday in her home after several years of failing health. She was born March 8, 1902, in Wilgus, Lawrence County, Ohio, the daughter of John W. and Melva Robinson Roach, and held membership in the Fairview Baptist Church, Wilgus. She resided in Springfield 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Ralph W.; one son, Ralph (Bill) Reed of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Haskins of Dayton and two brothers, Cecil of Ironton and J. Berkley of London, Ohio. Her body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home, where friends may call from 4 pm Sunday until Tuesday morning, when the body will be taken to the Brammer Funeral Home, Ironton, where services 2 pm Wednesday. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.
Reed James I Sr 1963 Ironton Tribune – (Monday, November 18, 1963) JAMES I. REED J.I. REED OF CHESAPEAKE FATALLY SHOT Lawrence County Coroner Dr. Harry Nenni has ruled the death of James I. Reed, 65, of Chesapeake Rt. 1, Saturday was accidental. The victim’s body was found by officers and volunteers in the wooded area near his Tallow Hill Road home Saturday at 11 p.m. Sheriff Carl E. Roses deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrolman said Reed had been accidentally shot in the face with a double barrel shotgun while hunting Saturday. Reed’s wife notified authorities Saturday at 7 p.m. when her husband had failed to return from a hunting trip. He had left home Saturday at 2 p.m. and when he failed to return the law enforcement officers, members of Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department and other volunteers began combing the area Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Mr. Reed was the son of the late William and Lula Plum Reed. He was a retired employee of a U.S. Engineers and a veteran of World War I and World War II. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Leona Reed; four sons, Dennis and William Reed at home; James Reed Jr., serving with U.S. Army in Germany, and George Reed of Huntington; three daughters, Mrs. Jean Miller, of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Betty Reed of Huntington and Mrs. Helen Fowler of Circleville, O.. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from the son who is stationed in Germany. Schneider Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral.
Reed James O 2009 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Wednesday, May 08, 2009) Reed JAMES OWEN REED, 82, of South Point, Ohio, passed from this life Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Hospice House of Huntington in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 9, 2009 at noon at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Ohio, Pastor Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio. Jim was born April 2, 1927, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a son of the late Owen James and Birdie Huff Reed. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he is survived by sisters Lahoma Graham of South Point, Ohio and Mary Smith of Chesapeake, Ohio. Reed Owen J 1974 Ironton Tribune – (Monday, Jan. 28, 1974) OWEN REED Owen James Reed, 72, of Chesapeake, retired employee of Perry-Norvell Shoe Co., died Saturday in a Huntington hospital.  Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Schneider Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Suiter officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. The native of Lawrence County was a son of the late Frank and Nannie Henson Reed.  His wife Birdie Huff Reed, died in 1971.  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Smith of Chesapeake and Mrs. Lahoma Graham of South Point; a son, Jimmie of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; three sisters, Blanche Noble and Garnet Snyder of Chesapeake, Edith Ransbottom of South Point; two brothers, Raymond of Chesapeake and Carl of South Point. Reed Ralph – 1974 Springfield Daily News – (Monday, December 08, 1975)  Ralph Reed Services for Ralph Reed, 73, of 2150 Hillside Ave. will be held at 10 am Wednesday in the Richards Memorial Home. Friends may call there from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The body will then be taken to Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, where friends may call Wednesday evening. Graveside services and burial will be Thursday in Woodland Cemetery at Ironton. Mr. Reed died Saturday in Mercy Medical Center following three weeks of illness. Contributions may be made to the Paramedic Heart Attack Fund.
Reynolds Alva A 1954 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Monday, June 28, 1954)   C&O Vet dies at 61 Alva Alonzo Reynolds, 61, of 1226 Eighteenth Street, a retired employee of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Co. shops here, died yesterday in a Huntington hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Kyle Dick. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be J.R. Stout, Forrest H. Clonch, J.E. Grubb, Harry Martin, E.W. Charlton, Andy Edwards, Clarence Lemaster and J.B. McGinnis. Reynolds Clemmie Sowards 1977 Ironton Tribune – (Thursday, February 10, 1977)  Clemmie Elizabeth Reynolds Clemmie Elizabeth Reynolds, 85, of Rt. 2 Pedro, was dead on arrival Wednesday evening in Lawrence County General Hospital after an illness of one month. She was born July 22, 1891 in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Jackson and Eliza Bradley Sowards. She was a member of Greasy Ridge Church of Christ. On October 7, 1909 she was married to James H. Reynolds, who preceded her in death. Survivors include four children, Hazel Fradd of Kitts Hill, Verna Forbush of South Point, James Reynolds of Forest Dale, Robert Reynolds of Rt. 2 Pedro; one brother, Walter Sowards of South Point; 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. One son, Paul and one daughter Elizabeth preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Kimble officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.

A retired farmer, he was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Oakland Chapel Church. He was a son of the late Winfield and Ellen Pinkerman Reynolds. Reynolds Mildred Owens 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, Dec 12, 2003)  Reynolds MILDRED LEE OWENS REYNOLDS, 87, passed away Dec. 8, 2003, in Danese, W.Va., at the home of a beloved friend, Millie Lewis. Mildred was born on January 13, 1916, to Samuel and Erie Owens. She had celebrated 56 years of marriage with the late Harold S. Reynolds, who preceded her in death in 1992. Mildred was an active PTA member at Simms Elementary School and enjoyed cooking as a hobby. She also served many leadership positions at the Southside United Methodist Church including a Sunday School Teacher and had served as president of the United Methodist Women’s Society. She was also an active member of Eastern Star Chapter 89. Mildred graduated from Huntington High School and was employed for many years at Blue Jay Inc., and White Way Laundry. She is survived by one son, Harold Lee and Dot Reynolds of Union, Ky.; one daughter, Barbara Sue and Leonard Terlizzi of North Canton, Ohio; one brother, Donald Owens; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at noon at the Ferrell Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Carrico.  Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters and a son in law, Dorothy M. Roach Herschel – 1951 Ironton Tribune – (Saturday, July 28, 1951)   Deaths – Funerals Herschel Roach Claimed by Death This Morning A well-known Lawrence County resident, Herschel Roach, 55, of 624 High St., Coal Grove, died this morning at 7:15 o’clock at his home after a long illness. Mr. Roach had been ill three years and bedfast the past nine months. He was a former member of the Water Works Board at Coal Grove, Lawrence County Board of Education, Coal Grove Council and was active in Jeffersonville Baptist Church prior to his illness. He also held membership in the Jr. O.U.A.M. of Coal Grove and the U.O.T. of Ironton. For many years, Mr. Roach taught the Young Men’s Bible Class at Jeffersonville Baptist Church and was prominent in all Church and civic activities of Coal Grove and this area. Mr. Roach was born at Rappsburg, Ohio, September 23, 1895, a son of Melva Robinson Roach of Coal Grove and the late John Roach. He was reared at Wilgus. In 1916 he was united in marriage to Althea Ellcessor and they resided at Wilgus. For many years he was employed at Standard Oil Company. In 1925 they moved to Coal Grove where he operated a store from 1925 until retirement in 1948 due to ill health. Five children were born to their union, one daughter died in infancy. Surviving are the mother, Melva of Coal Grove; the widow, Althea of Coal Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Taylor of Ironton; Mrs. Juanita Haynes of Coal Grove; Mrs. Virginia Grove of Ironton; Mrs. Ruth Frische of Coal Grove; two brothers, Berkeley Roach of London, Ohio, and Cecil Roach of Sugar Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Harley Haskins of Aid and Mrs. Ralph Reed of Springfield, Ohio, and eight grandchildren also survive. The body will be at the residence where friends may call after 2 PM Sunday. Rowe J Russell 1972 Springfield Daily News – (Saturday, Dec. 30, 1972)  Rowe London, Ohio – in J. Russell Rowe, 78, of Newport-Bloomingburg Rd., London, Route 1, was dead on arrival at 6:30 PM Friday at Madison County Hospital. Death was attributed to a coronary occlusion. Mr. Rowe was a retired farmer. He was born in Lawrence County February 8, 1894, a son of Columbus and Jane Murdock Rowe. He had lived in Madison County since 1947. He was a member of the First Christian Church, W.C. (Washington Courthouse), and was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kingery, and one son, Ray C. Rowe. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 PM in the Chester R. Geer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Range Township. Rowe John – 1979 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Thursday, August 16, 1979)   Rowe John Rowe, 76, of Route 1, Kitts Hill died yesterday evening at 11:30 p.m. in a local nursing home. He was born on August 25, 1902 in Lawrence County, the son of the late William and Ella Turner Rowe. He spent all his life in the Ironton – Kitts Hill area. He worked at the Hutsinpillar Hardware Company and later worked at the Goldcamp Hardware company for 34 years. He retired in 1971. He was married on October of 1928 to Mary Jane Adams who survives. Additional survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Betty Waller, Mrs. Albert (Ruth) Hilgenberg of Ironton, Mrs. Robert (Francis) Pinkerman of New Port Richey, Florida and Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Carmon of Flatwoods, Ky; three sons, Donald E. of Marion, Ohio, James A. of Ironton and Dale E. Route of Kitts Hill; three brothers, Dillard Rowe of Chesapeake, Howard Rowe of Getaway and Edgar Rowe of Columbus; one sister, Mrs. Eva Halleck of Huntington, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. She was born April 4, 1907 in Mineral, Kansas, a daughter of the late Hamilton and Ellen Adams. Mrs. Rowe spent all her life in the Lawrence County area. She was married in 1928 to John Rowe who preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Betty Waller and Mrs. Albert (Ruth) Hilgenberg both of Ironton, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Pinkerman of New Port Richey, Fla., Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Carmon of Flatwoods; three sons, Donald E. Born May 3, 1889, in Cabell County, she was a daughter of the late Uriah and Louisa Brown Ross. Her husband, Thrurman Rucker, died in 1959. She was a member of the Twentieth Street Baptist Church and Daughters of America. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lula Collins of Chesapeake; four sons, George and Cephis Harless and Herbert Rucker of Huntington and Loren Rucker of Petersburg, Va., a daughter, Miss Alice Ross of Akron, Oh., and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ruef; one daughter, Barbara Fain of Springfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven W. and Sheilah Ruef of Enon, Ohio; one brother, Kenneth and Virginia Keeny of Toronto, Ohio; five grandchildren, Tracy, D.J., Justen, Ashley and Tristen; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Ryan. Russell, 94, of Route 1, Kitts Hill, died Friday at Lawrence County General Hospital following an extended illness.   She was born March 11, 1891, in Lawrence County, the daughter of the late Henry H. and Martha Crawford Keeney.  She spent her life in Lawrence County and was a telephone operator at Wilgus for several years.   She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She lived in Aid most of her life.   Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband Jess W.  Russell in 1984. Surviving are one daughter, Faye Gettys of Aid; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one son and one grandson. He was a former employee of the State and County Highway Departments, and retired in 1962. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Keeney, whom he married in married January 29, 1906; a daughter, Faye Gettys of Aide; a granddaughter, Mrs. Jean Musgrave of Willow Wood; two grandsons, Keith Gettys of South Point and David Gettys of Aide; three great grandsons and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 PM at Philips Funeral Home by the Rev. Lowell Justice. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Born in Lawrence County on May 18, 1832, he was a son of the late J.R. and Josephine Pine Russell. He married Nettie Phillips on January 4, 1913 and she died November 13, 1965. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Vilma Lowry of Cincinnati and Mrs. Ava Benn of Trotwood, Ohio; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Robin Lowry; four brothers, Ben, Denver and Jess of Aid and Jim of Pica; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Kreiger of Dayton and Mrs. Maud Bussey of Aid. Mr. Russell was a member of Aid Methodist Church. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home.
