This index of typed obituaries range in dates from 1902 – 2011 and was compiled by David Parsons, who wished it to be shared on ‘The Lawrence Register’ website.

These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is important material for the genealogist.

Oliver Mabel 2003 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Feb 19, 2003) Oliver MABEL MARIE OLIVER, 84, of Willow Wood, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Hall Funeral Home by the Rev. Roy Adkins. Burial will follow in Donahoe Memorial Gardens, Willow Wood, Ohio. She was born April 21, 1918, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, to both the late Leonard and Pearl Kelly Madden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Oliver; one daughter, Donna Jean Casey; four brothers, Paul, Joe, Ralph and Bobby Madden; and one sister, Juanita Oliver. She was a member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Donahoe of Willow Wood, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Mike and Diana Donahoe, Steve Donahoe, Randy Donahoe, Todd and Dereka Donahoe, all of Willow Wood, Ohio, Joe and Angie Donahoe of Huntington, W.Va., Cathy Casey and Ricky Casey, formerly of Gallipolis, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Kristi, Renae, Michael, Brittany, Randall, Chloe, Travis, Hunter and Jonathan; numerous nieces and nephews. O’Neil Leslie L 1979 Ironton Tribune – (Monday, August 13, 1979)   Leslie L. O’Neill Leslie L. O’Neill, 98, of Route 1 Willow Wood died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Christian, close friends and neighbors, Sunday at 4:30 pm. He was born July 17, 1881 in Mason Township, a son of the late Rev. G.W. O’Neill and Emma Miller O’Neill. He formerly operated be O’Neill Furniture Store in Ironton and was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School 75 years and he also took care of the cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Vivian Robinson with whom he his home, Mrs. Irene Jenkins of Lynn Haven, Florida; one son Orin O’Neill of Columbus, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Harmon in 1964 and one son, George O’Neill of Columbus. Services will be 1 pm Wednesday at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Everett O’Neil officiating. Burial in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home from 6 to 10 tomorrow.
O‘Neill Mary Harmon 1964 Ironton Tribune – (Thursday, Sept. 17, 1964)   Mrs. Leslie O’Neill Mrs. Mary E. O’Neill, 80, wife of Leslie O’Neill, of Willow Wood, Rt. 1 died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William Robinson of Greasy Ridge. Mrs. O’Neill was born at Rappsburg on February 11, 1884, daughter of the late George and Rebecca Callicoat Harmon. She was a member of Locust Grove Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband, Leslie and her daughter, Mrs. Robinson, are another daughter, Mrs. Irene Jenkins of Leesburg, Fla.; two sons, George of Summit Station, Oh., and Orin of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Gornall of Panama City, Fla. The body is at Philips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Locust Grove Methodist Church. Rev. Everett O’Neal, Rev. Marvin Turner and Rev. Earl Bazell officiating with burial in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Robinson at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Orsini Frank T 1972 Ironton Tribune – Tuesday, January 25, 1972 Orsini         Frank Torino Orsini, 80, of Kitts Hill, died at 1 a.m. today at his home. He had been in failing health for the past two years.  Mr. Orsini was born in Italy, son of the late Carlos and Villoria Rossini Orsini. He came to the United States when he was 14 years old (about 1916) and had resided in Lawrence County since 1946.  He was a retired machinist for the Snyder Tool and Die Co. in Detroit.  Mr. Orsini was a member of Mamre Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are the widow, Nellie Jenkins Orsini, whom he married in 1918; 11 children, Harry C. Huddle, James Orsini and Mrs. Vance Helen Dillon of Marion; Arthur Rossini of Kitts Hill; Mrs. Steve (Mary) Farkus of South Amherst, Ohio; Mrs. William (Rose) Balzer of Lorrain, Ohio; Mrs. William (Marjorie) Green of South Point; Rev. Lawrence Orsini of Lake Ann, Mich.; Mrs. Clarence (Francis) Delawder of Ironton; Richard Orsini of Mt. Gilead, Mrs. Daniel (Carmella) McDavid of Franklin Furnace; 42 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Homer Click. Burial will be in Mamre Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Ours Alva O 1983 Columbus Dispatch – (Sunday, September 04, 1983)   Ours Alva O. Ours, age 75, of 164 Hubbard Ave., Columbus, Friday, Doctors Hospital North. Retired from N.J. LeCrone Construction Co.. Veteran World War II. Survived by wife, Rhoda; daughter, Imogene Caudill of Columbus; granddaughter, Shirley Tatman of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Pamela and Steven; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Birdie Delong of Springfield, Ohio and Mamie Welch of Marion, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Ours Charles W 1979 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, September 29, 1979)   Mr. Charles W. Ours, 83, of 5172 Yeich Ave., Huntington, died Tuesday, September 25, 1979, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Chapman’s Mortuary by the Rev. O.A. Judd and the Rev. Lucien Jackson. Burial will be in Crooks Cemetery. He was born July 21, 1896, in Crown City, Ohio, a son of the late Poe and Lydia White Ours. He was a retired boilermaker’s helper for the C & O Railroad and also worked for the Burger Iron Co. in Akron, Ohio. He attended Bowen Ridge Church of God. He was preceded in death in 1941 by a daughter, Ellen Ours, a brother in 1969, William H. Ours, and a sister in 1974, Mrs. Ella Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wells Ours; two daughters, Miss Margaret Eloise Ours of Huntington and Mrs. Dallas (Avalea) Beckett of Lantana, Fla.; four sons, Calvin and Travis Ours, both of Akron, Harold Ours of Milton and John Ours of Huntington; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Marvin, Melvin and Kenneth Ours, Orion Sellards, Denver Wright and Morris Kirtley. Friends may call after noon Friday at the mortuary.
Ours Darrell L 1985 Gallipolis Sunday Times – (Sunday, December 22, 1985)   Darrell Lee Ours Gallipolis – Darrell Lee Ours, 55, of Route 2, Crown City, died Saturday morning at Holzer Medical Center following a long illness. A former employee of Tri-State Materials Company of Huntington, W.Va., he was born June 28, 1930 in Gallia County to the late Donald and Audrey McClure Ours. Survivors include his wife, Irene Church Ours; two sons, Roger and Eddie Ours, both of Crown City, one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Diana) Black of Crown City; six grandchildren; nine brothers, Charlie, Roy, Wilbur, Tommie and John McClure, all of Tampa, Fla., Harold and Arnold McClure, both of Bainbridge, Ga.; Joe McClure of Dover, Tenn., and Max Ours of Crown City; three half-sisters, Mrs. Rosemary Royal and Mrs. Robert Holt, both of Tampa, and Mrs. Fred (Donna) Sanders of Eureka Star Route, Gallipolis. A member of the Lucinda Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Bragg officiating. Burial will be in Crown City Cemetery. Ours Donald V 1979 Gallipolis Daily Tribune – (Thursday, Feb. 19, 1979)   Donald V. Ours A faithful worker for the Gallia County Junior Fair for many years died Wednesday morning at Holzer Medical Center. He was 67 years old. Donald V. Ours, Rt. 2, Crown City – the Swan Creek Community – who succumbed at 8:45 AM. The Junior Fair stood No. 1 with Donald Ours, and he volunteer his services for years before he was elected to the board in 1970. He continued working for the fair during the last two years, even after he had left the board in 1976, despite his deteriorating health. His health had failed for five years, and his condition was serious for six weeks. As a fair board member, Mr. Ours devoted most of his attention to two committees: the program committee, and traffic and parking. Mr. Ours worked for 24 years for the State Highway Department, retiring in 1970. He also farmed. He was born January 9, 1912, at Little Swan Creek to the late William H. and Goldie Johnson Ours. On March 18, 1933, he married Elsie Phillips, who survives along with two sons, a daughter, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The two sons are Darrell of Crown City and Mac R. of New Holland, Ohio; the daughter is Mrs. Fred (Donna June) Sanders, Eureka Star Rt., Gallipolis; a grandson, Donnie, was raised in the home. Also surviving are a sister and four brothers; Mrs. Clarence (Gladys) Layne, Herman, Kenneth, Marvin, and Melvin Ours, all of Crown City. Two brothers, Lawrence and William Lee Ours, preceded him in death. Mr. Ours became a member of Liberty Chapel Church in 1933. Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Lusher officiating, and burial will be in Swan Creek Cemetery. Friends make call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Ours Elsie I 1987 Gallipolis Daily Independent – (Thursday, August 6, 1987)   Elsie Ours Elsie I. Ours, 75, of Rt. 2 Crown City, died Wednesday evening at Holzer Medical Center. She was born September 7, 1911, in Gallia County, to Will and Ella Phillips. A lifelong resident of the Swan Creek community, she was retired from the Gallipolis Development Center since 1980. She was a member of the Liberty Chapel Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ours in 1979, and by two brothers and one stepson, Darrell Ours. Survivors include one son, Max of New Holland, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Dona J. Sanders of Gallipolis; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mina Persinger of Gallipolis, Eva Burchat, Rena Layne and Lemie Smith of Columbus; two brothers, Carl Phillips of Covington, Ky., and Fred Phillips of Gallipolis. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to pm at the Willis Funeral Home. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Butler and Bill Matthews.
Ours Goldie Johnson 1963 Gallipolis Daily Independent – (Friday, March 15, 1963)   Elderly Lady Dies Enroute To Hospital Mrs. Goldie E. Ours, 72, a resident of Crown City died at 9:30 am today while enroute to Holzer Hospital in a Waugh-Halley-Wood ambulance. Mrs. Ours had been in failing health several years and had been in serious condition for year. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Emma Gardner Johnson. Her husband, William H. Ours and five sons (Donald, Herman, Kenneth, Melvin, Marvin) and a daughter (Gladys Layne) survive. The body is at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home and other details and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Ours Herman E 2004 Chillicothe Gazette – (Thursday, Nov 19, 2004) Herman E. Ours, 80, of Crown City, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, 2004, at Holzer Medical Center.  Born Feb. 16, 1924, in the Bladen community, Gallia County, he was the son of the late William and Goldie Johnson Ours. Herman retired from the Kaiser Aluminum Co., where he worked as a steel mill worker. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Kings Chapel Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Irene Warren Ours; two sons, James and Alvin Ours; two daughters, Anna and Susan Ours; four brothers, Donald, Lawrence, Marvin and Melvin Ours; and by one sister, Gladys Layne. He is survived by his second wife, Freeda Beekman Ours; along with two children, Alice (Max) Touer of Lancaster and Richard (Melody) Ours of Canal Winchester; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth (Lueva) Ours of Crown City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, 810 2nd Ave., Gallipolis. Ours Lydia White 1943 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Sunday, October 17, 1943)   Mrs. Lydia Ours Mrs. Lydia Ours, 83, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Winfred Buchanan 3722 Fourth Avenue, on Friday, will be buried in the Kings Cemetery following funeral services Monday at 1 pm at PawPaw Christian Church, Swan Creek, Ohio. The body was removed from the Willis Funeral Home to the residence of Mrs. Buchanan yesterday. The funeral party will leave for Swan Creek at 11:30 am Monday. Surviving are Mrs. Buchanan; and another daughter, Mrs. Hattie Laporte of Point Pleasant, and two sons, W.H. Ours of Bladen, Ohio and Charles Ours, RDF 1, Huntington.
Ours Marvin – 1993 Gallipolis Sunday Times – (Sunday, November 21, 1993)   Marvin Ours Gallipolis – Marvin ‘Biggen’ Ours Sr., 64, of the Eureka community in Gallia County, died Friday, November 19, 1993 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. He was a self employed driver for Mountain State Enterprises. Ours was a member of Gallia Masonic Lodge 469 of Eureka, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union. He was a former Clay Township trustee. Born May 1, 1929, in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Will and Goldie Johnson Ours. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Williams Ours, a son, Marvin E. Jr. (Jeanne) Ours of Gallipolis; a daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Osborne of Gallipolis, three brothers, Herman Ours of Crown City, Kenneth Ours of Crown City, Melvin ‘Tince’ Ours (his twin brother) of Crown City; one sister, Gladys Layne of Crown City and four grandchildren, Brian Ours of Gallipolis, Michael Ours of Gallipolis, Tige Osborne of Annapolis, Md., and Tia Osborne of Gallipolis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Lawrence Ours. Services will be held two p.m. Monday at the Willis Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Payne officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 8:30 pm today at the funeral home by Gallia Lodge 469. Pallbearers will be Brian and Michael Ours, Donnie Ours, Paul Dean Porter, Norman Mitchell and Tony Ours.
Ours Uriah – 1960 Gallipolis Daily Independent – (Thursday, Sept. 15, 1960)  Uriah Wickline, retired farmer, claimed at 82 Uriah Wickline, 82, retired farmer and carpenter, died at 11:30 pm Wednesday at the home of a son. Mr. Wickline was a resident of Rt.2, Crown City (Providence community). He had been in failing health for two years and his condition had been serious for the past three months. He was born in Mason Twp., Lawrence County on January 28, 1878, the son of the late Lewis A. and Adeline Brumfield Wickline. His wife, Eleanor, preceded him in death several years ago. They were married in June 1901. Ten children survive, Maurice of Crown City at which whose home he died, Forrest Wickline and Mrs. Otho (Freda) Moore, both of Gallipolis, Mrs. Charles (Doris) Newman of Providence, Mrs. Sanford (Lulu) Wise of Crown City, Kempy of Dearborn, Mich., Earl Wickline of Utica, Mrs. Freda Riffel of Athens, Mrs. Mildred Saunders of Newark and James Wickline of Loraine. Two children preceded him in infancy. A surviving brother is John Wickline of Lecta. There are 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Wickline spent 31 years in this county in the Providence community. He came to Gallia County from the Greasy Ridge community. He was a member of Okey Chapel church. Services will be held there at 2 pm Sunday with burial to follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 am Friday and until the hour of the service. Rev. Webb Swain will officiate.
Ours William H 1964 Gallipolis Daily Independent – (Monday, June 8, 1964)  William Ours, 79, Succumbs William H. Ours, 79, a resident of Swan Creek Rd., Route 2, Crown City, died suddenly at his home at 7:15 am today. He had been in failing health for five years. Mr. Ours had engaged in farming. He was born in Ohio Twp., June 7, 1885, son of the late Poe and Lydia White Ours. His marriage to the former Goldie I. Johnson took place on April 1, 1912, and she preceded him in death in March 1963. Five sons and a daughter who survive are; Donald Ours, Kenneth Ours and Mrs. Clarence (Gladys) Layne, all of Route 2, Crown City, Herman Ours of Lancaster, Ohio, Marvin Ours of Eureka, Ohio and Melvin Ours at home. There are 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Lawrence and William Lee preceded him in death. Other survivors are brother and sister, Charles Ours and Mrs. Ella Buchanan, both of Huntington. Three sisters and a brother are deceased. Mr. Ours was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Swan Creek. The body is at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
