This index of typed obituaries ranges in dates from 1902 – 2011 and was compiled by David Parsons, who wished it to be shared on ‘The Lawrence Register’ website.

These obituaries are persons associated with descendants of the Lawrence County, Ohio Hardesty/Lake Atlas family trees and were typed exactly as they were first published in the newspapers. Most of the newspapers are from Ironton, Ohio, Huntington, WV, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, WV. Even though this is not a complete list, it is an important material for the genealogist.

Nance Albert F 1962 Ironton Tribune – Friday, November 23, 1962 Albert F Nance    Following an illness of one year, Albert F. Nance, retired farmer of Linnville, died at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lawrence County General Hospital.Mr. Nance was born at Scottown: March 27, 1884, son of the late David and Rhoda Boyles Nance. He spent his entire lifetime in the Linnville area. Surviving are his wife, Rena Simpson Nance, whom he married in 1908; two sons, Devern and Forest of Willowwood; two daughters, Mrs. Regina Dickess of Kitts Hill and Mrs. Devona Lafon of Scottown; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Thompson of Willowwood. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home.Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Linnville Baptist Church. Rev. Raymond Dillon officiating with burial in Linnville Cemetery. Friends may call at Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Saturday.
Nance Lurena 1966 Ironton Tribune – Thursday, October 13, 1966     Mrs. Lurena Nance A native of Lawrence County, Mrs. Lurena Nance of Willowwood, died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at General Hospital. Born on April 5, 1889, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Frances Kelley Simpson. She was a member of Linnville Baptist Church. Her husband, Albert F. Nance, died in 1963 (should be 1962). Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Regina Dickess of Kitts Hill and Mrs. Clovis Devona Lafon of Scottown; two sons, Forrest and Devern of Willowwood; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Simpson of Kitts Hill; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Danford of Scottown. The body is at Phillips Funeral Home where friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Linnville Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Dillon officiating. Burial will be in Linnville Lutheran Cemetery.
Nance Mary Boyd 1958 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, May 13, 1958)     Mrs. Mary A. Nance, 2712 S. 6th Street, died suddenly at her home Monday at 11:50 p.m. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Nance was born December 8, 1882 in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late James and Minerva Crawford Boyd. She spent her entire life in Lawrence County and attended county schools. She had been a resident of Ironton for the past 42 years. She was a lifelong member of Lorain Street Baptist Church. On March 23, 1901, she was married to Harry Nance, who survives. He has a retired city fireman. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James R. (Avilla) Harvey of Ironton; one son, Jesse Nance of Rt. 1; three grandchildren; two brothers, Ben and Arnold Boyd, both of Ironton; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Bryant and Mrs. Martha Townsend, both of Ironton. One daughter, one son and two brothers preceded her in death. The body is at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in the completion of arrangements.
Nash Elmer E 1932 Ironton Evening Tribune – (Friday, Aug. 26, 1932) ELMER NASH DIES AFTER OPERATION – Death came at Huntington Hospital Early this morning. Elmer Nash, age 24 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Nash of Porkadotte, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington this morning at 4 o’clock following an appendicitis operation, performed last Monday.  The young man is survived by his parents, his widow and other relatives.  Funeral services will probably be held Sunday but definite arrangements have not been made.  Undertaker Phillips will have charge.
Nash Etta Dillon 1967 Ironton Tribune – (Thursday, March 23, 1967)    Etta Helen Dillon, Following an illness of two years, Etta Ellen Dillon, 77, died Tuesday in Springfield, Ohio. Born in Lawrence County, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus and Ellen Dillon. Surviving are two sons, Frank Nash of Springfield and Berkley Nash of Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Clara Hopkins of North Hampton, O.; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Richards Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial will be at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Kingery Cemetery on Greasy Ridge.
Neal James C 1931 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, September 8, 1931)     Neal  –  Funeral services for J. Cos Neal, retired farmer and stockman who died Sunday morning at 2:30 o’clock at the Marting Hospital, were held at his late home at 1403 S. 10 Street this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. W. H. Hampton was in charge of last rites and burial was made in Woodland Cemetery under direction of Undertaker Phillips. Mr. Neal suffered a stroke of paralysis Friday after he had visited a friend. He was removed to the Marting Hospital but failed to regain consciousness. He was born near Arabia on January 7, 1859, a son of Vinton and Harriet Burton Neal. He was reared in the Aaron’s Creek neighborhood and early in manhood was employed as a farm hand by Jim Bradshaw. After seven years of work and saving he purchased a small tract of land and in the following years enlarged on his holdings until he was the owner of 1800 acres. He raised cattle and farmed and was recognized as one of the best in the district. Ten years ago he and his wife moved to Ironton, leaving the farm and pastures in charge of Curt Taylor, his son-in-law. Mr. Neal is survived by his widow, Mary Hague Neal, and two children Mrs. Curt Taylor of near Arabia, and Montrose Neal at home. One son, Ernie, was killed in an auto accident in Michigan some years ago. Three brothers and two sisters also survive; Wm. (William) Neal of Huntington; T. (Thomas) H. Neal of Arabia, former Sheriff, John of Waterloo, Mrs. Alice Schaffer (Schafer) and Mrs. Clyde (Emma) Crawford, both of Huntington. One grandson, Neil Taylor, survives.
Neal Lulu Powell 1961 Ironton Tribune – (Sunday, December 3, 1961)    Mrs. Lulu M. Neal   Mrs. Lulu Powell Neal, 314 1/2 Center Street, died in General Hospital Saturday morning after an illness of one week. Mrs. Neal, 68, was born in Lawrence County, July 13, 1898 and spent her entire life here. She was a daughter of the late Henry and A. Powell and Marriah Dillon Powell. Her husband, Elliott R. Neal, whom she was married in 1909, died in December 1949. Mrs. Neal was a member of First Baptist Church of Ironton and of the Friendship Club. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Frank Feutcher Funeral Home. The Rev. Cecil Patterson, pastor of Lorain Street Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in William Cemetery at Leatherwood. Calling hours at the Funeral Home will begin at 2 p.m. today. Surviving are four children; Mrs. Kathleen Palmer of Ironton; Mrs. James Wilson of Ironton; Mrs. John D. Ankrim of South Point; and Charles E. Neal of Indio, Calif. One daughter and one son died in infancy. Four grandchildren survive. Other survivors include a brother, R.C. Powell of Opapka, Fla.; two half brothers, John Ashworth of Kitts Hill and Albert Ashworth of St. Mary’s, Idaho; and a half sister, Mrs. Grace Shepard of Orlando, Fla. A half-brother and half-sister, Lee Ashworth and Carol Williams are deceased. Pallbearers at the rights Monday will be Eddie Clutters, Richmond Jones, Tom Hughes, Harold Layne, John Robbins, Bill Gayheart, Jim Rollyson and Clyde Justice.
Neal Mary – 1939 Huntington Herald Advertiser – (Sunday, July 09, 1939)     Mrs. Mary Neal   Mrs. Mary Neal, 77, died at 3:15 pm yesterday at her home in Milton following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 am at the Providence Chapel near Milton with the Rev. R.C. Cannon, the Rev. G.C. Hutchinson and the Rev. Martin Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Neal Cemetery near Milton. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bipha Connor and Mrs. Minnie Chapman of Huntington, and two sons, Robert and Clark Neal of Milton.
Neal Montrose – 1950 Ironton Evening Tribune – (Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1950)     Montrose (Mont) Neal, 56, died last night at 10 o’clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Curt Taylor at Arabia, after suffering with a stroke at the dinner table. The deceased, a well-known county resident, was born August 13, 1894, at Arabia. He was the son of the late Cos and Mary Hague Neal and had spent most of his life on a farm at Arabia. Following the death of his parents, he had resided with his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Taylor of Arabia. Mr. Neal was a member of First Baptist Church of this city. The body is at Philips Funeral Home where friends may call Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at two o’clock by the Rev. Henry Lynd, pastor of Waterloo Methodist Church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Neal Thomas H 1936 Ironton Tribune – (Wednesday, September 2, 1936)     Former Sheriff Thos. Neal Dies; Funeral Thursday   Thomas H. Neal of Arabia, former sheriff and business man, died Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at his home following an extended illness. His condition had been critical during the last five weeks following a cerebral hemorrhage and he had been unconscious since August 17th. He received the best of care and attention but his condition was hopeless from the start of his recent relapse. Mr. Neal was one of the best known and most beloved men in the city or county. He was born in the county on October 19, 1861, a son of the late Vinton and Martha Neal. He was united in marriage to Miss Myra C. Crawford in 1895 and union was one of perfect harmony and happiness, death coming as their first separation. Their married life was spent in Ironton and Lawrence County and they reared an excellent family of three children, County School Supt. Stanley Neal, Mrs. Lena N. Ellcessor, a teacher at Waterloo and Miss Marjorie Neal at home. The widow, children, two grandchildren, Ruth and Virginia Ellcessor, two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Shaffer, Mrs. Clyde Crawford and William Neal of Huntington and John Neal of Waterloo, survive. Two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Herrell and Mrs. C.R. Simms and one brother, J. Cos Neal, preceded him in death. Mr. Neal served as sheriff of Lawrence County from 1912 to 1916 and was one of the best in the history of the local office. Mr. Neal will be removed to his home at Arabia early this evening and funeral services will be conducted there Thursday afternoon at two o’clock by Rev. Fred Rice with interment in Aid Cemetery under direction of Undertaker Phillips.
Neff Anna Brammer 1981 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, August 4, 1981)     Mrs. Anna F. Neff   Mrs. Anna F. Neff, 90, of Proctorville, died Sunday at Jo-Linn Health Center, Ironton. She was born April 19, 1891, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Vinton and Mary Faulkner Brammer. Her husband, Harry A. Neff, preceded her in death in 1978, as well as a grandson, Harry D. Neff. She was a member of the Rome Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Carl Bernard Neff of Proctorville and William Clifford Neff of Jackson, Ohio; two granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 pm Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by the Rev. Clifford Suiter. Burial will be at Rome Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Newman Chester R 2005 Ironton Tribune – (Friday, Sept. 16, 2005)    CHESTER “CHET” R. NEWMAN, 83, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Robert Barbour. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. He was born May 11, 1922, in Proctorville, Ohio to the late Fred C. Newman and Stella Burcham Newman Brammer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Newman. Chet was owner and operator of Newman’s Garage for 41 years. He is survived by his wife Mildred Fuller Newman; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Melody Newman; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Curry, all of Proctorville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Joe Newman, Leslie Newman and Zachary Curry; and one great-granddaughter Haleigh Newman. Nibert Nanie Siders 2002 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, Aug 13, 2002)   NANNIE MARIE NIBERT, 76, of Henderson, widow of Leslie F. Nibert, died Monday in Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Point Pleasant. She was a homemaker. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Deal Funeral Home, Point Pleasant; burial in Beale Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove. Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Nicholas Charles C 1959 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, May 1, 1959)    Charles Clyde Nicholas – 56 years old, 361 Main Street, Milton, who died Wednesday at his home, will be buried in Oaklawn Cemetery following services at 2 pm tomorrow at the Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Wetzel Davis, the Rev. Homer Curry and the Rev. Benny Courts officiating. The body has been taken to the residence from the Heck Funeral Home at Milton, and will be taken to the church one hour before the services.
Nicholas Clifton – 1952 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Wednesday, April 9, 1952)    Clifton Nicholas dies in hospital   Clifton Nicholas, 43, of Milton Route 4, retired employee of the International Nickel Co., died at 8:20 p.m. last night in a Huntington hospital. He had suffered a heart attack at his home Monday night. He was born in Cabell County, a son of Mrs. Fanny Vititoe Nicholas of Milton Route 4, and the late James Nicholas. He was choir director at the Union Baptist Church near Milton, and a member of the Guyandotte Junior Order of United American Mechanics. At the time of his death, he was employed as a shovel operator for the State Road Commission in Cabell County. Additional survivors include the widow, Mrs. Eva Morris Nicholas; one daughter, Mrs. Claude Chapman of Milton; one son, Bernard Nicholas at home; five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Collins and Mrs. Pansy Morrison of Milton, Mrs. Ruby Nicholas, Mrs. Garnet Pack and Mrs. Alpha Raines of Huntington; three brothers, Earl and Lonnie Nicholas of Milton and Raymond Nicholas of Huntington, and one grandson, Everett Chapman of Milton. Nicholas Lonnie E 1973 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Sunday, March 11, 1973) Lonnie Everett Nicholas, 58, of 1765 Mudd River Rd., Milton, WV, died Friday in a Huntington Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 PM at Union Baptist Church, of which he was a member, Deacon and trustee, by the Rev. Paul DeBord and the Rev. Keith Creasy. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. A retired farmer, he was born April 27, 1904, at Milton, a son of the late James and Fannie Vititoe Nicolas. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Oretha Davis Nicholas; three daughters, Mrs. Lovey Nelson of Huntington, Mrs. Mary Freeman of Milton and Mrs. Donald Johnston of Norfolk, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Collins and Mrs. Garnet Pack of Milton, Mrs. Ruby Nicholas and Mrs. Alpha Raines of Tampa. Nicholas Oretha Davis 1993 Ironton Tribune – (Monday August 2, 1993)   Mrs. Oretha G. Davis Nicholas, 82, of Milton, went home to her Lord Saturday, July 31, 1993, at her residence.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Heck Funeral Home by Pastor Paul DeBord. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington, WV.  She was born in Putnam County Nov. 9, 1910, a daughter of the late Black Moore and Belle Keeney Davis.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Everette Nicholas on March 9, 1973;  five brothers, Rev. Earl, Carl, Wilburn, Wilson and Paul Davis; one sister, Geneve Reynolds; and a half sister, Sylvia Swann.  She was a retired L.P.N. supervisor at the former Barboursville State Hospital and a member of the United Baptist Church, Milton, WV.  Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lovey Nelson of Huntington, WV, Mrs. Mary Freeman and Mrs. Donna Johnston, both of Milton, WV; one sister, Mrs. Vonna Davis of Milton, WV; one brother, Leo Davis of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Greg Nelson, James Nelson, Mike Freeman and Betsy Murphy; and seven great grandchildren, Andy and David Murphy, Jared Jonathon, Patrick and Joshua Nelson and Miranda Freeman. Nicholas Raymond J 1961 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Tuesday, November 07, 1961)    Raymond J. (Bud) Nicholas – Forty years old, 2035 Jefferson Avenue, died in a Huntington hospital yesterday. He was a son of the late James and Fannie Vititoe Nicholas and was a member of the Union Baptist Church of Milton. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Alma D. Fizer Nicholas, two sisters, Mrs. Rosa (Virgil) Collins of Milton, Miss Ruby Nicholas, Mrs. Alpha Raines and Mrs. Garnet (Walter) Pack of Huntington and Mrs. Pansy (Connell) Morrison of Milton and a brother, Lonnie Nicholas of Milton. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 pm at the Union Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Stannard Chandler and the Rev. Walter Bias, and burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Nichols Hattie Jones 1942 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Sunday, March 8, 1942)    Mrs. Hattie Jones Nichols   Mrs. Hattie Jones Nichols, 63, who died Thursday at her home at 52 A Street, will be buried today in the Rome, Ohio, Cemetery following funeral services at 2:30 pm in the Bradrick Baptist Church with the Rev. L. M. Barnett, pastor of the Lavalette Methodist Church officiating.
Nichols Roy E 1938 Huntington Herald Dispatch – (Friday, March 18, 1938)    Roy Edwin Nichols -Nineteen years old, of Chesapeake, died yesterday morning in a Huntington hospital following an operation. He had been a patient for two weeks (burst appendix and peritonitis). Funeral arrangements have not been definitely made, but services will probably be held tomorrow afternoon at Rockwood Baptist Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer D. Ancell, with whom he made his home; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Miller, Miss Eloise Nichols and Miss Billy Nichols; of Chesapeake; two brothers, Carroll Henry and Curtis Ray Nichols of Chesapeake; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Nichols and his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baise, all of Chesapeake. He was president of the senior class of Chesapeake High School when he graduated in 1937. Pallbearers will be selected from close friends in school associates.
Nicolia Mary Lewis 2004 Lancaster Eagle-Gazette – (Wednesday, May 12, 2004) Mary Nicolia, 81, of Lancaster, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Fairfield Medical Center. She was a member of Maple Street United Methodist Church, former central committeewoman for the Republican Party and a member of the Air Force Association. She worked at Anchor Hocking Plant 2 as a selector. She is survived by sons, William (Song) Nicolia and George (Peggy) Nicolia of Lancaster; daughters, Ruth (Darrell) Nichols of Melbourne, Fla., and Karen (Joseph) Oslanzi of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Judy) Lewis of Lewisburg, W.Va.; and sister, Lennie (Wilson) Bundy of Ironton. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Nicolia; grandson, William A. Nicolia; parents, William and Rachael Anderson Lewis; brothers, Nelson and Paul Lewis; sisters, Faye Webb and Virginia Coldiron, and one infant sister. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sheridan Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Forest Rose Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Funeral Home.
Niday Ercel – 1982 Springfield Daily News – (Thursday, March 18, 1982)    ERCEL NIDAY   Services for Ercel Niday, 92, of the Ohio Missionary Home in New Carlisle, who died there at 12:30 PM Thursday, will be at 10:30 AM Friday in the High Street Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Gerald Morgan will officiate. He was born in Gallia County, August 31, 1899, a son of Francis Taylor and Elizabeth Sheets Niday. A resident of the Springfield area since 1928, he was a charter member of the High Street Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Esta E. Niday; a son, Floyd T. of Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth E. (Elizabeth) Green of Springfield, and Mrs. Robert (Anna) Clark of Springfield; four step daughters,, and one stepson, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His first wife, Ollie E. died in 1949. A son, Charles T., also is deceased. Friends may call at the Austin Richards and Raff Memorial Home Thursday at from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. His body will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the Ohio Missionary Home.
Nourse Dolores Mccoy 1999 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, June 22, 1999)    Dolores Nourse  June 28, 1928 – June 21, 1999   South Point – Dolores Avagene Nourse, 70, of South Point died Monday at River Valley Health System in Ironton. The Ranger, W.Va., native was born June 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Alfred and Bessie Fraley McCoy. She was the wife of Ralph Duane Nourse, who survives. The lifelong resident of Lawrence County was a 1946 graduate of Coal Grove High School and she was a Baptist. She was a homemaker and loved to write poetry. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Montford and one brother, Brent McCoy. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gail Nourse of Coal Grove; 3 daughters and 2 sons in law, Linda G.  Nourse of Huntington, W.Va., Diana L. and Tom Becker of Mesa, Ariz., and Toni E. and Tom Laney of Proctorville; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dot Drury. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Highland Memorial Gardens, with Pastor James Hobbs officiating. There will be no public visitation

The St. Petersburg, Fla., native was born February 1, 1926, the son of Ralph S. Nourse and Bessie Haskins Nourse, both deceased. He was the husband of Delores Avagene McCoy Nourse, deceased. He was a retired building contractor. He also was preceded in death by 3 brothers. Nourse Ralph S 1965 Ironton Tribune – (Tuesday, September 14, 1965)  Ralph S Nourse A retired Lawrence County building contractor, Ralph S. Nourse, Sr. of 111 N. St., Coal Grove, died at 6:45 am today at Lawrence County General Hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday. He had been ill for the past two years. Mr. Nourse was formally a member of the Lawrence County School Board and Dawson Bryant School Board. The retired contractor also served as building inspector for the Lawrence County School System for several years.  For a number years he operated the Nourse Grocery in Coal Grove and owned and operated the former Valley Motel at Sheridan before retiring in 1961. He was born in Sciotoville on September 1, 1902, a son of the late Murt and Ollie DePriest Nourse. He spent his early life in St. Cloud, Fla., but had been in Lawrence County since about 1920.In September 1920, he was married to Bess Haskins, who survives. Mr Nourse was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coal Grove and the United Commercial Travelers.   Survivors are his wife, Bess; the following children; Mrs. James (Geraldine) Blakeman of Sugar Creek, Ralph S. Nourse, Jr. of South Point, Gary E. Nourse and Mrs. Norma Malone both of Ironton, Mrs. Ronald (Carol) Whaley of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Dan (Sue) Carey of Coal Grove; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Loren Nourse of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Enoch Tyson of St. Cloud, Fla. He was preceded in death by two sons, Earl and Donald, and one brother. The body is at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nowlin was born in Cabell County on December 1, 1923, a daughter of the late James N. and Rachel Shultz Freeman. She was retired from Rollison Catering. She attended Z Warner United Methodist Church and Beula Ann Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Niles E. Nowlin, two daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Ron Martz of Richmond, Va., and Dagnya and James R. White of Lesage; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Deborah Nowlin of Ona; and two brothers, Glenn Freeman and Willard Freeman, all of Ona; six grandchildren, who will  serve as pallbearers, Chris Woodrum, Jason Woodrum, Rachel Woodrum, Sean Nowlin, Kevin Nowlin, and Lea Ann White; six great-grandchildren, Heather Woodrum and Andy Black; and a sister in law, Mrs. Euda Moore of Ona. Nile was born on July 10, 1920, in Cabell County, to the late Amos Hooper Nowlin and Etcel Simpson Nowlin. He was preceded in death by his adoring wife and soul mate, Audrey Freeman Nowlin and two precious great-granddaughters, Mckenna and Audrey Nowlin. He is survived by his one sister, Euda Moore of Ona; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Ron Martz of Richmond, Va., and Dagnya and James R. White of Lesage; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Debora Nowlin of Ona; six grandchildren, who will serve as pallbearers, Chris Woodrum, Jason Woodrum, Rachael Davis, Lea Ann White, Sean Nowlin and Kevin Nowlin; seven great-grandchildren, Heather Woodrum, Hannah and Riley Woodrum, Madison Davis, Audreyawna White and Logan and Emma Nowlin. Surviving are his wife, Ada Williams Null; the following children; Owen of Cleveland, Eugene at home, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Strickland, and Mrs. Adalee Null Butler, both of Ironton, Mrs. Peggy Null Carrico and Terry Null at home; eight grandchildren, Connie, Bob and Ana Strickland, Mike, James and Jeanette Butler, Jerry Lynn Carrico and Carolyn Null; one half brother, Hurley Jones of Proctorville.
