Keeney Benjamin 1905 Ironton Register – (Thursday, March 23, 1905) BAD DEATH OF BEN KEENEY – At Getaway, Monday Night from Appendicitis and Complications Benjamin Keeney, the young man who was operated upon for appendicitis last week, died at the home of his mother near Getaway, Monday night at 11 o’clock.  As has been noted in the register, he secured his license one week ago last Friday to wed Miss Stella Wilson, of this city (Ironton). Mr. Keeney went to Huntington on Saturday and as he was returning home, he was taken violently ill.  A physician was called, who pronounced his trouble appendicitis.  Dr. Burns, of Huntington, was summoned and on Thursday an operation was performed.  Just before the operation he and Miss Wilson were united in marriage.  After the ordeal of the operating table he rallied and seemed on the road to recovery.  He became worse, however, and Dr. D.C. Wilson, of this city (Ironton) was summoned, but a second operation had been performed Sunday morning before his arrival.  Medical aid was of no avail and he gradually grew worse until his death Monday evening.  The cause of his sickness was attributed to a fall he received several weeks ago while out hunting.  He fell, receiving a painful injury in the abdomen.   Mr. Keeney was the son of the late M.B. Keeney and a grandson of Oliver Brammer, of Getaway.  His mother, formerly Miss Sarah Brammer, was one of the leading teachers of the county twenty-five years ago, and she had taken great pains and interest in the education of her son, who was one of the brightest and most promising young men of the county.  For several years’ he had been a teacher and had only recently closed a successful term of school near his home.  He was a member of a militia company at Huntington and belonged to the lodge of Knights of Golden Eagles at Getaway.  His bride of but a week was well known in this city and county and in her bereavement has the sympathy of a host of friends throughout this section.   Sheriff J.M. Payne and Attorney J.C. Riley, of this city, both personal friends of the deceased, have ordered a beautiful floral wreath with the word’s ‘rest’ across it, as a token of their respect for the deceased.  The Getaway Council, K.G.E. of which he was a member, has also ordered a fine floral offering from this city.  It will contain the letters K.G.E.  The funeral occurred at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning.
