Nathaniel Pritchard

NOTE: This is very long, and complex file, which spans three generations and covers several states, it is extremely difficult to read. I only abstracted the main points.

Declaration of Nathaniel Pritchard (sometimes spelled other ways, such as Prichard) to obtain the certificate of the Act of Congress passed Nov. 7, 1832.

State of Ohio Lawrence County Ohio, Court of Common Pleas of August Term 1832. Appeared Nathaniel Prichard, resident of Rome Township, in said county, aged 70 years old, swore the following statement:

Nathaniel Pritchard served in Revolutionary War and enlisted at four terms of service in 1776. He enlisted at a place called Russell —, three miles from the town of Milford, Connecticut…as a volunteer for about 4-6 months.

Some months before the burning of —-, he went to Bethlehem, CT with Nathan Chapman….Nathaniel Prichard says that at the end of each term of service, he is certain he served 18 months….he served two years during the war.

He was born in Milford, CT, on 16 May 1762. His age was recorded in his Bible…he moved to Burlington, Hartford County, CT, where he resided until about 1804. Then moved to —-NY until 1810, then removed to Union Township, Washington County, Ohio, and remained till 1819. Then Nathaniel Pritchard moved to Rome in Lawrence County, Ohio, where he lives at this time….. He can refer to Judge Elijah B. Greene & William G. Robinson, and many others who are acquainted with him….

Several people swear to know Nathaniel Pritchard from Lawrence County, Ohio, and that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

Comfort Pritchard, (is) dec’s widow who served in the Revolutionary as a private inscribed on the roll at the rate of $54.28 per annum to commence on 4 March 1848…Certificate of Pension issued on the 18 day of February 1856? and sent to Lewis Newsom Gallipolis, Ohio. Recorded on Roll of Pensioners under Act 2 Feb. 1848 Page 357, Vol. 4

Lawrence County Ohio Court of Common Pleas 10 Oct. 1845, She is under sworn statement and states that she is the widow of Nathaniel Prichard….at the time of his death. She was married to Nathaniel Pritchard on 3 Sept. 1788 in Milford, CT, at the home of John Gillett. She was born on 2 April 1762 or 1771 (both dates appear in the claim). ….and she has not married since the death of her husband.

Signed 10 Oct. 1845….other witness sworn statements given. Also, four pages of the copy of the Pritchard family bible with family records are included on fold3.com.

Comfort Gillett Pritchard died on 6 Sep. 1848, and their Family Bible gives the children of Nathaniel and Comfort Pritchard dates of birth and deaths.
