State of Ohio-Lawrence County – Court of Common Pleas June 1818 John Overstreet declared he enlisted into the US as Pvt. solder sometime in September 1775 for one yr in Capt. William Campbell’s company in the 1st BA Regiment served until 22 September 1776.
He was discharged at Williamsburg, VA, on 4 January 1777. He again enlisted as Pvt. for 3 yrs in the 14th VA Regiment and afterward consolidated with the 1st VA Regiment and 14th VA Regiment. He was honorably discharged at Philadelphia, signed by Captain Nathan Reed and Col. Webb. He was in the battle of Brandywine and Germantown.
He was also at the storming of Fort Stony Point under general Wayne and in the battle of Monmouth, where he volunteered to serve at the siege of York, at which time he remained before the enemy’s lines until the surrender of Cornwallis. Signed John Overstreet
Sworn before me at Burlington Lawrence County, Ohio, second circuit, John Thompson, 16 June 1818
9 Aug 1820, personally appeared in open court age 60 years, a resident of said county sworn in according to the law declared he served in the Revolutionary War as follows….pension certificate #11561….has wife above 60 years of age and have no other person in my family…
In 1827 he was living with his children in Sangamon County, Illinois, names not given.
He died in 1848 in the state of Illinois.
