A private in the Second Virginia Cavalry is a woman named Jenny Prater, hailing from Lawrence county in Ohio. She has been arrested and sent to Camp Chase. The Gallipolis Journal says she is “fair as a rose, plump as a partridge, and in smoking and swearing is fully the equal of any trooper in the army.”

Many prisoners from Kanawha arrived in town last Sunday, among which were 17 secesh, 6? Federal deserters, and one private of the 2nd Va. Cavalry. The latter is a young lady by name of Jenny Prater, formerly from Lawrence county. Jenny is quite a character, fair as a rose, plump as a partridge, and is smoking and swearing fully the equal to any trooper In the army.
She claims to be from Lawrence county, which is doubtless true, as Lawrence has sent out, in proportion to population, a greater number of volunteers than any other county in the State, females included. They need not be ashamed of Jenny as a soldier, for verily she is some on muscle, and any lemons going in may “kinder kalkulate” to get squeezed – so she says, and her appearance indicates it.
