Our dear friend, Tom Clutters, who loved Lawrence County, Ohio history, especially anything related to the Civil War Veterans, created the Lawrence County, Ohio Civil War Veterans list. This love grew into a much-needed resource in finding veterans’ burial sites around our county that were either forgotten, destroyed, or without a military headstone.

[The above photo of Tom Clutters and Martha J. Martin was taken in 1999.]

Tom then teamed up with another old friend of his, Perry Campbell, a Purple Heart Vietnam Veteran. He later became great friends with Julian Barnett, the Union Hill Cemetery caretaker. The three of them started on a journey together to help many of us to find the sacred ground on which our veterans were laid to rest.

We encourage our visitors to visit the other pages of the cemeteries, which Tom, Perry, and Julian searched, found, then recorded their findings. Although Tom, Perry, and Julian could not finish their journey here, their work will forever be remembered and appreciated. The Lawrence Register dedicates this webpage in their honor.
