Lawrence Township is centrally located in Lawrence County, Ohio, and was settled in 1806 by the Webbs, Willis, and Pancake families. James Webb, Sr., is said to have built the first cabin in 1806. Andis and Kitts Hill are two communities located in Lawrence Township.
James and Sarah Webb were the first couples married, and their child, Tull Webb, is proclaimed to have been the first child born in the township.
In the 1830s school houses became important, and the settlers started to build log cabins, bringing the total number of schools in the township to nine frame buildings.
Edward Kitts established the first Post Office in 1891, and this area became known as Kitts Hill. In 1950, Kitts Hill Schools were consolidated with Rock Hill Schools.
