Pioneers

Because of the locality of Lawrence County, Ohio, meaning we are located within a triangle of (West) Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. We are also surrounded by several waterways such as The Ohio River, the Guyandotte River, the Big Sandy River, The Scioto River, and other smaller streams such as Symmes Creek. There were a lot of families traveling through our county, some only staying for a few years and then moving to other areas.

‘The Lawrence Register has gathered ‘Family Genealogy’ and ‘Biographies’ for many decades. We have compiled three separate pages for these memoirs listed below.

The link to ‘Family Histories’ is the work of our volunteers, long before the internet. These records are based on research from courthouse records, cemetery readings, oral histories, and other facts.

‘Biographies’ are stories and histories of the early citizens and pioneers from Lawrence County, Ohio. This is an important section to read, as most of the time it will give the place of birth, and sometimes the date. Early settlers moved together from one state to another, then built places of worship, schools, and essential establishments.

Our newest link is of ‘Notable Persons from Lawrence County, Ohio’, who have made an impact in the United States and/or other parts of the world. It is an incomplete index, and I will be updating it as I find more stories. If you have anything you wish to add to any of the links below, please email me at [email protected].
