Ironton Register, Thursday, January 30, 1879 – Death of Judge Nash.

Death of Judge Nash. – Simeon Nash, of Gallipolis, died Sunday, January 18, in the 75th year of his age.  He was born in Massachusetts and went to Gallipolis by stage, arriving on January 9, 1832. He was admitted to the bar in 1833.  He has filled the offices of  State Senator, member of the Constitutional Convention of 1850, and Common Pleas Judge for ten years.

He was a man of great industry, writing several books during his busy life.  His “Pleading and Practice” passed through several editions and is today an authority in the law office.  Judge Nash leaves a wife and five children, two daughters and three sons.

From the Gallipolis Journal, we take the following item concerning the cause of his death:  An autopsy of the body of Judge Nash was held by Drs. Sanns and Northup, Sunday afternoon.  The enlargement of the spleen caused death.  The usual size is six to seven ounces; in his case, the spleen would weigh eight pounds.  This enlargement pressed upon the left lung destroying its action.  The liver was also enlarged.
