Judge Joseph Wood

Judge Joseph Wood

Ironton Register, Thursday, November 27, 1851

Another Pioneer Gone – Hon. Joseph Wood, one of Ohio’s early settlers and oldest citizens, died at his residence early yesterday morning.  Judge Wood was for many years a Surveyor of the Public Lands in the Northwestern Territory and subsequently, for a long time, registered of the Land Office in this place.

His age, we think, was about 94 years.  His physical and mental powers remained unimpaired until a few days after his death.  Not one survives of those who came to the Northwest Territory in the vigor of manhood when it was a wilderness. –  Marietta Intellgenear.
