Abstracts of the WV Baptist and Baptist Banner

About this file:
I helped Sheri K. Petitt index this file, she spent many hours abstracting genealogical information from the two newspapers, named above. She lived many years in Guyandotte, WV and was the Pres. of KYOWVA and President of Lawrence County, Ohio Gen. Society, and many other organizations. She was a speaker at many OGS Seminars, and worked tirelessly to help others in acquiring their Civil War medals located in WV Archives. She was one of my dearest and friends, we traveled many genealogy trips together, and she was one of the best storytellers I have ever met, and could keep you laughing without cracking a grin.

Sheri passed away on April 12, 2012 in Florida where her and her husband Rick went to live after Sheri’s health started to decline. I spoke with Rick often after Sheri’s death, and was saddened to read of his death two years later on June 23, 2014 in Bunnell, Florida. There was never an obituary printed in our local newspapers about Sheri’s death, and I have alway felt compelled to do something to honor her extraordinary life.

This is her book that was never completed, before she died she had written on a piece of paper her wishes after her death. Her husband Rick had found it shortly after her death, on the paper she had written “to give Martha this book so I could finish it”. I recently came across her book while going through some old computer files. It is a long document, 197 pages long,

I hope by uploading her book here on “The Lawrence Register” someone will be helped and remember the kindness of Sheri Kay Pettit. She will always be in my heart. If anyone has anything they would like to add about Sheri, or photos, please do so in the comments below.
