Remembers A Heavy Snow of Long Ago
I. F. Dillon, of Rockwood, who is well known in this city, where he is a frequent visitor, says that the early snow of this winter is nothing to compare with one distinctly remembered by him in October of 1847. Mr. Dillon says that six inches of snow fell on the ground for two weeks between the fifteenth and twentieth of October of that year.
Mr. Dillon, who well remembers the snow, says that it was the earliest in the season that he has ever seen. He will be eighty-one years of age next May. October snow is a rather unfrequent occurrence, and the one in 1847 of which Mr. Dillon speaks is one of the few that has been known during the past century.
