Buckeyes
Meeting of the Ohio Boys Last Evening
Names of those who Called on President Hayes

Annotated by Sharon M. Kouns

The call for a meeting of the former residents of Ohio, to call on the president, was responded to by quite a large delegation.

Judge J.W. Grim was called to the chair, and David Steel elected secretary.

Judge J. F. Caples, Judge J. W. Grim and Mr. C. W. Young, were elected a committee to express to the president our best wishes, and the sense of the meeting.

Mr. Caples moved that the meeting go in a body to the Eamond [Hotel where the president was staying] and call before the time for the reception at the pavilion.

It was suggested that an Ohio organization be formed for the purpose of getting acquainted.

It was moved that when the meeting adjourned it be until one week from this evening (Friday, 8th inst.) at the rooms at the YMCA.

It was moved and carried that these proceedings be published in the daily papers of the city.

Mr. Clark Hay was appointed marshal.

The meeting then adjourned and marched to the Eamond and were presented to the president. Judge Caples made quite a neat and patriotic speech.

The president returned thanks for the honor.

The "Buckeyes" then formed and marched to the Pavilion. Before leaving Front street, three cheers were given for President Hayes, three for Mrs. Hayes, three for Gen. Sherman, and three for the rest of the party.
