DANIEL CARLAN DIES; FORMER MILL OFFICIAL

A resident of the Calumet region since 1903, Daniel L. Carlan, 69, of 315
Belmont Pl., Munster, IN, retired superintendent of stores at Inland Steel
Co., died Friday night at his home after a long illness.

Carlan, who was a native of Ironton, Ohio, was employed at Inland Steel for
35 years, from 1905 until his retirement because of illness 11 years ago.
From 1912 to 1944, when he moved to Munster, he lived in Indiana Harbour and
East Chicago. He was a member of the Inland Club for 25 years.

Surviving are the widow, Ruth; a son, James Boyce Carlan, of Munster; two
daughters, Mrs. Helen Luddy of Hammond and sisters, Mrs. Mary McMahon of
Covington, KY, and Miss Nellie Carlan, of Columbus, Ohio; and seven
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9 am Monday from the Burns Funeral home,
5840 Hohman Ave., Hammond with rites in St. Thomas More Church, Munster, at
9:30 am. the Rev. Robert Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery, in Gary.
