JONES
Mrs. Eleanor JONES, widow of the late Evan B. Jones , and known to
an unusually large number of friends as Grandma Jones. passed away
Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of her niece Mrs. Laura
CLINE of Sedgwick, with whom she made her home. Mrs. Jones was 78
years of age and her death was due to infirmities. The deceased was a
native of North Wales and came to this country in 1872, settling in
Baltimore, Md. She lived for some time with her brother Evan WILLIAMS,
father of the late Col. Evan F. Williams, William Williams, and of
Mrs. Cline of Sedgwick, and of Mrs. Mary DICKSEID of Ashland, Ky. She
came to Ironton years ago and since has been a resident. She was a
faithful member of the old Wales Church and after it was discontinued
she never submitted her letter of membership to any other
denomination. She always lived a true Christian life and was a loving
wife and companion. She is survived by the following nieces and one
nephew: Mrs. Laura Cline of Sedgwick, Mrs. Mary J. Dicks of Ashland
and David Williams of California.
The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o’clock
from the Cline home, Rev. E.B. TOWNSEND , pastor of the First
Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Woodland
cemetery under the direction of BINGAMON& JONES.

SISLER
Susan Jane SISLER of Vesuvius Furnace , and the widow of John M.
Sisler, who died 28 years ago died Sunday Jan. 11 at 6:15 o’clock. She
is survived by three sons and two daughters: Charles Sisler of
Ironton, Albert of Lawrence Furnace, Frank and Della at home, and Miss
(not a typo of transcriber, one of newspaper perhaps?) Elizabeth
BARNHART of Pedro. Mrs. Sisler’s death was due to infirmities of old
age.
The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning Jan 14 at 11
a.m. with burial in the Sugar Creek cemetery.

BRYANT
Mrs. Dora BRYANT, a highly esteemed widow and residing at 713
Jefferson St. died Sunday morning at her home following an illness
lasting several months, her health being due to tuberculosis.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon with burial in
Woodland cemetery under the direction of BINGAMON& JONES.

REMOVALS
The work of removing the bodies of the father and mother
of Mrs. Jere DAVIDSON, their two children and Edward A. THOMAS, the
first husband of Mrs. Davidson from Kelly’s cemetery to a family lot
in Woodland was completed last week. In view of the fact that the
deceased were all known to the old settlers of this county, a word
regarding them will be of interest.

Hugh CRAWFORD, father of Mrs. Davidson , was one of the
first sheriffs of Lawrence Co. serving before the county seat was
removed from Burlington. He was born Oct 18, 1812 and died Jan. 03,
1853, being killed by becoming entangled in a rope while handling a
raft. His wife Frances DILLON Crawford, a sister of Stephen Dillon, of
this county, died on Sep. 14, 1856, of typhoid fever. She was the
daughter of Jesse and Rebecca Dillon. The two children of Hugh and
Frances Crawford, Gerome and Franklin, aged 10 and 1 years
respectively, both died in 1853, one in May and the other in July.
Edward A. Thomas, whose remains rest beside those of the Crawford
family, was a promising young attorney who enlisted at the opening of
the war, and was a Sergeant-Major in the 2nd. West Va. Cav. He was
wounded in battle and died from the effects of his wounds July 26,
1864. His remains were brought to Ironton and interred in Kelly’s
cemetery in January 1865.

DEATH’S HARVEST
Mrs. Amanda STEWART, wife of Dr. W.M. Stewart of Marion,
this county, died suddenly of heart disease at noon Saturday, aged 74
years. The deceased was a lifelong resident of this county and one of
the most esteemed residents of the community in which she lived. Judge
and Mrs. J. C. RUSSELL, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. YATES, Mrs. STURGILL, and
Dr. Wm. SHATTUCK attended the funeral which took place from the
residence Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev.
GILLESPIE, and the remains were interred in Marion cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret FERRY died at her home on South Fourth St., at
6 o’clock last Monday morning, aged 73 years. Her death was due to the
infirmities of age. The husband of the deceased was killed at Big Etna
Furnace over twenty years ago by the fall of an elevator. She leaves
the following named children: Mrs. John McCLAIN of Cincinnati, Mrs,.
T.J. O’KEEFE and Miss Kate Ferry of St. Louis Mo., Hugh, George, and
John Ferry and Miss Bridget Ferry of Ironton. The funeral took place
from St. Lawrence Church Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Susan WURTS SWOPE, widow of George Swope, died late
Friday evening at her home, # 531 South Fifth St. Her death was due to
an attack of bronchitis, coupled with the infirmities of age and was
not unexpected.
The deceased was born at Connellsville, Pa. in 1820 being past 80
years of age at the time of her death. She leaves six children, three
sons and three daughters: Mrs. William TAYLOR

NO HOPE FOR "DANNY" RITER
Mrs. Earnest MOORE received word Wednesday from her husband who is
in Dayton at the bedside of "Danny" RITER saying there was no hope of
the sick man’s life being saved.
