Mrs. J. W. Farmer, a former resident of this county, died at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. W. W. Wynn of Portsmouth, Saturday, from the
effects of old age. Mrs. Farmer, whose maiden name was Elizabeth
Griffin was born at Erie, Pa., 79 years ago, and came to this county
with her parents while quite young and settled at Hanging Rock. Here
she was married to James W. Farmer several years later. Her husband
built one of the first houses in Ironton, where they resided for some
time. Then afterwards moved to Hecla. Also lived in Haverhill and Pine
Grove, Portsmouth. Mr. Farmer died about 3 years ago. Mrs. Farmer is
survived by ten children: Charles and Thomas Farmer and Mrs. Winnie
Powell of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Mary Phillips of Seattle, Wash.,
Mrs. Ella McGuire of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Dr. Herbet, of Columbus,
Jas. Farmer and Mrs. W. W. Wynn of Portsmouth and Mrs. B. F. Howell of
this city.

Mr. Elton Garland FERRIS, 87, of 321 Rockwood Ave, Chesapeake, Ohio,
died Thursday Nov. 11, 1976, after an extended illness. Funeral
services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hall Funeral Home,
Proctorville, by the Rev. Billy Ferris. Burial will be in Rome
Cemetery. He was born Aug. 23, 1889, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a son
of the late William and Virginia Dudley Ferris.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Pruitt Ferris, who
died in 1974. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Goldie Harmon,
Mrs. Florence Hastings and Mrs. Lucille Smith, all of Chesapeake, Mrs.
Lillie Zuzzio of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Evelyn Blevins of
Huntington; a sister, Nettie Pridemore of Huntington; a brother,
Russell Ferris of Covington, Va; 11 grandchildren; 25 great
grandchildren and a great-great-grand child.

yesterday at his home, will be buried in the Rome, Ohio Cemetery
following funeral services tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove

include the widow, Mrs. Pauline Wilgus Ferris; a son, Ira Joseph
Ferris of Proctorville; three daughters Mrs. Phyllis Clark and Mrs.

three grandchildren and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Ferris of
Proctorville. He was formerly employed by Gillen Motor Sales of

Funeral Home at Chesapeake at 3 p.m. today.

A German, living on Joseph Gilland's farm, on the old Helca Rd, about
1 mile from town, hung himself in the stable loft during the absence
of his wife and family, last Friday afternoon. Before he committed the
act, he wrote: "This world is full of trouble, and I have had enough
of trouble, and I am about to end it. Goodby, dear wife and friends."
He was about 53 yrs old. He had been a steady but not an excessive
drinker, and has freq. threatened during the last 6 months to take his
life.

Albert FREEMAN - Jan.8, 1908 - Dec. 29, 1993 - 83, of South Point,
died Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness. The South
Point native was born Jan. 8, 1908, the son of the late Kyle Freeman
of (and) Mary Legg Freeman. He was the husband of the late Anna
Frances Netherly Freeman. He was a retired employee of the Allied
Chemical Corp. and a member of the First Baptist Church in South
Point.
Survivors include four daughters, Thelma McComas of South Point,
Doris Reyes of Alamogordo, NM, Marietta "Sam" Roevers of Prior Lake,
Minn. and Linda Uterly of Ashland, KY; two sons, Gary Freeman and Dale
Freeman, both of South Point; one sister, Belle Maynard of Ironton; 13
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Sunday at 2
pm at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Swartzwelder
officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South
Point.

Thursday at his home. He was born on Feb. 18, 1917, in South Point and

retired control operator with Allied Chemical after 26 years service.
He was a veteran of U.S. Army, serving in World War II. Survivors
include several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are Monday,
10:30 a.m., Woodland Cemetery, by the Rev. Paul Miller. There will be

James L. Freeman, 86, of Miami, WV, died at 12 p.m. Friday at the home
of a son, Howard W. Freeman, 3737 1/2 Gallia St., New Boston, Ohio. He
had been ill four months. Born Feb. 4, 1874, at Chesapeake, Ohio, he
was a son of the late Isaac and Rebecca Moore (Foreman) Freeman.
Surviving are two other sons, Elmer J. of New Boston, William H. of
Coalfork, WV; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha A. Steed, 3164 Gallia St,
New Boston, Mrs. Hazel Talbott of Charleston, WV, Mrs. Marion
Seagraves of Miami, WV, and a sister, Mrs. Hilda (Hulda) Henson of
Getaway, Ohio.
Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sarah
Farris Freeman, four sisters, four sons, three daughters and two
brothers. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Miami, WV.
Funeral services are to be at Pomaria Baptist Church at Chesapeake
with the Rev. William Lee officiating. Burial is to be in the church
cemetery under direction of Pennington - Sowards Funeral Home. Friends

Kyle Freeman, 94, of South Point, was pronounced dead on arrival at
Lawrence County General Hospital at 9:30 a.m. today. Mr. Freeman, a
lifelong residence of South Point, was a farmer in the area in that
area and retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railroad Co. His
wife, Mary Alice, preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons,
Albert Freeman of South Point, with whom he resided for nine years;
and Virtle of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Garland (Dorothy)
Fitzpatrick, of South Point, Mrs. Ova (Bessie) Jordan of Columbus,
Mrs. Belle Maynard of Bridgeton, N.J.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great
grandchildren; one grandson reared in his home, John Freeman of South
Point; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Gibson of South Point and Mrs. Sally
Blakeman of Ironton. The body is at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.

Scottown this morning at 4:30 o'clock following a year's illness. Her

Thomas C. FREEMAN, 44, of Willowwood, husband of Vera Higgins Freeman
and a welder for the C & O Railway, died yesterday in a Huntington
hospital. Funeral at 1 p.m. tomorrow Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton,
Ohio; burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, Greasy Ridge.

Mr. Walter K. FREEMAN, 53, of 444 6th Ave., Huntington, WV, died
Monday, Dec. 7, 1987, in The Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at Hall Funeral
Home, Proctorville, Ohio, by Rev Charles Christian. Burial will be in
Centenary Cemetery. He was born Aug. 4, 1934, a son of Bertie Keeney
Freeman of Chesapeake, Ohio, and the late Kelley Freeman. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Freeman. Additional survivors
include 1 daughter, Linda Lee Towne of Clearwater, FL; 1 sister,
Freida Freeman of Chesapeake, Ohio; 1 brother, Bernard Freeman of
Scottown, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
FREEMAN, William H. Ironton

William H. Harrison Freeman of South Point died Saturday evening at 6
o'clock at his home following an illness of one year. He was born May
30, 1867 at South Point and spent his entire life at South Point and
North Kenova. He was the son of the late William and Margaret Stanley
Freeman and formerly operated a grocery in South Point many years.
He was united in marriage Nov. 2, 1890 to Martha Ann Base (Baise).
Mr. Freeman was of Baptist faith. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Martha
A. Freeman, and the following children; Mrs. O.T. Johnston of South
Point, Mrs. A.D. Dean of Huntington and two grandchildren. The
following sisters and brother also survive; Mrs. Lula Legg of Ironton,
Mrs. Ada Derifield of Ironton Route One, Mrs. Rebecca Pierce of
Franklin Furnace, Mrs. Williard Gibson of South Point and one brother,
Kyle Freeman of South Point. Two sisters and one brother preceded him
in death.
The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. O.T. Johnston at
North Kenova today where friends may call. Funeral services will be
conducted tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. William Caudill
with the burial in Woodland Cemetery in charge of Tracy Brammer.
