Murder in Jackson County - The Jackson Standard says that the dead
body of James Carl was found in a coal pit near the Cross Roads
station on the S. & H. V. Railroad, on the 3d inst. - supposed to have
been murdered with an axe, by one Isaac Hoctor, a grocery keeper at
that place.

James P. Castper, of Rush, Ky., died last Friday, of heart disease....
Remains were brought to the home of his mother, brothers and sisters
on 7th street... The commentaries of Knights Templar were in
attendance. The burial took place in Ashland. He was 50 years old. He
married Miss Laura V. Black, in 1872, and they had three small
children, all of whom, and the wife, are deceased.

Christian, died Saturday at his residence. He was an employee if the
W. J. Maier Storage Company. Also surviving are two daughters, Patty
Greene of West Jefferson and Linda Lindsey of Chesapeake, and two
sons, Jimmy Christian of Columbus, and Michael Christian of
Chesapeake. Funeral 2 pm. Wednesday at Schneider Funeral Home,
Chesapeake, Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends

Walter A. CHRISTIAN, 75, of Ironton, husband of Martha Pearl McCormick
Christian, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte, Russell, Ky. He
was a retired deputy sheriff for the Lawrence County Sheriff office.
Also surviving are three sons, Walter A. Christian Jr. of South Point,
and Brad Christian and Woodrow "Woody" Christian, both of Ironton; and
five daughters, Karen Clark of Ashland, Donna Brumfield and Sharon
Pruitt, both of Ironton, Drema Stewart of Wellston and Patti King of
San Bernardino, Calif. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Royersville
Missionary Baptist Church; burial in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends may
call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton,OH.

Andy Jackson (Jack) CLARK, 73, of Rt. 1, Chesapeake, Ohio, died
Thursday in a Huntington, WV, hospital. Funeral services will be
conducted Sunday at 1 pm at the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church by Rev
Clifford Suiter. Burial will be in the Perkins Ridge Cemetery. A
retired employee of the American Car & Foundry Division of ACF
Industries in Huntington, WV, and a retired barber, he was born March
3, 1895, in Lawrence Co., Ohio, a son of the late Bobby and Analyze
Hupp Clark. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Pomaria
Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Velma Murnahan
Clark; 2 sons, Julian and James Arno Clark, and a brother Cecil Clark
of Chesapeake, Ohio, and five grandchildren. Not Married; No Children
Friends may call at the Schneider Funeral Home at Chesapeake, Ohio
after 3 pm Saturday.

Mrs. Lillian F. Clark, 56, of Chesapeake Rt. 2, died suddenly at her
home Saturday. A daughter of the late Cecil and Lennie Cron Rigney,
Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 23, 1922 in Lawrence County, Ohio. She was
preceded in death in 1976 by her husband, Cecil. Survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Pyllis Ferris of Chesapeake, Ohio; seven grandchildren;
two great grandchildren; a half brother, Carlton Ellis of Scottown,
Ohio. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home
with the Rev. Clifford Suiter officiating. Interment will be in
Perkins Ridge Cemetery.

Monday, Jan. 24, 1994, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral
Home, Proctorville, Ohio, by the Rev. Mitch Webb and the Rev. Okla
Judd. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. She was born June 5, l955, at
Huntington, a daughter of the late Lucian and Myrtle Brown Copley. She
was a member of Pomaria Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by
one son, Scottie, and one granddaughter, Heaven Lee. Surviving are her
husband, Bob Clark; three daughters, Missi Day, Heather Copley and
Jenny Copley of Chesapeake; two sons, Shawn Copley of Wilgus, Ohio,
and Christopher Copley of Scottown, Ohio; four grandchildren, Cody,
Tiffany, Nikki and Whitney; two sisters, Sharon Mount of Huntington
and Clarissa Moore of Proctorville; and four brothers, Clovis Copley
and Kevin Copley, both of Proctorville, Kenny Copley of Huntington and
Harold Brown of Columbus, Ohio. Raised by Isaac & Rebecca Freeman
after her parents died. Husband, Andrew Clark died in 1968.

consumption. "Timmy" as he was familiarly known...was 26 years old and
worked in mines here since early youth. Employed at Eagle
Mill...burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Wednesday, May 26, 1982, in the Huntington Hospital. Funeral services

Okla Judd. Burial will be in Perkins Ridge Cemetery. She was born June
4, 1900 in Lawrence County, Ohio, a daughter of the late James and
Sarah Freeman Murnahan (Freeman). She was preceded in death by her
husband, Andrew Jackson Clark; a daughter, Bernice Clark, and one son,
James Arno Clark. She is survived by a son, Julia J. Clark of
Proctorville; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister,
Mollie Ward of Kenova, W.Va.; and a dear friend and cousin, Stella
Barry (Berry) of Proctorville.

CORBIN, Martha Ann, Mrs.

Mrs. Martha Ann Corbin 92, died at 4:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Ashworth of Kitts Hill, following a
three year illness which had become critical only recently. Mrs.
Corbin came to Lawrence County at the age of 7 with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Benjamin Williams of Monroe county where she was born March
1, 1854. She married George W. Corbin in June, 1869, and they
established their home at Leatherwood, near Getaway. She resided with
her children following the death of her husband in 1921. Seven
children survive, three preceding her in death. Surviving children are
Mrs. Cora Woessner of Chesapeake, S.B. Corbin of Kitts Hill, Mrs.
Alice Ashworth of Kitts Hill, Mrs. Lucetta Waller, Mrs. Georgianna
Waller, both of Ironton, W.F. Corbin of Tacoma, Wash., and O.L. Corbin
of Ironton. The three children, who preceded her in death are Lucinda
Dudley, Henry Corbin and Laura Bowman. She is also survived by 59
grandchildren, 104 great grandchildren and 15
great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral
Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock
at Myrtle Baptist church with Rev. Charles McKnight and Rev. Clifford
Suiter officiating, with burial in Myrtle Cemetery.
