OAKES, EMILINE (CHURCH) I.R.

Died on the 15th of November, at Haverhill, Emiline, daughter of Joel
Church, and wife of E. H. Oakes; aged 36.
OAKES, EPHRAIM I.R. DEC. 29,

Ephraim H. Oakes died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs.
McLaughlin, at Haverhill, on Wednesday, last week, and was buried at
the Davisson graveyard on Friday. The dec'd was one of the oldest
citizens of this region. He was among the pioneers, and lived here
from the time of the Indians till now when the country is covered with
towns and farms. He was born on Long Island in 1796, and came to Ohio
when he was six years old. So he has been here 85 years. He introduced
the mould-board plow in this region and led in all ways of progress.
He was three times married and survived his wives. He has been blind
for almost four years. A very large throng attended the funeral, among
whom were numerous descendants who, with affection, revere the memory
of the good old man.

A brother of Ephraim of Haverhill died at Portsmouth last week, aged
88 years.
OAKES, MRS. TEMPERANCE MARSHALL

Mrs. Temperance Marshall Oakes, wife of Joshua Oakes, died at her home
below Haverhill Sunday morning, aged 72 years, _ months, 29 days. She
had been an invalid the past ten years. Mrs. Oakes was born on the
Marshall farm near Sciotoville, November 8, 1828. She was married to
Mr. Oakes, January 11, 1850, and a little over a year ago they
celebrated their golden anniversary. Mr. Oakes and eight children
survive the deceased. The latter are: Mrs. Charles Austin of Hanging
Rock, Davis, Oscar and Frank Oakes of Haverhill, Mrs. Capt. Matheson
of Charleston, W. Va., Mrs. Fillmore Mu__er, of Portsmouth, O., H.
Oakes of Yazoo City, Miss., and Elmer Oakes of Ironton.

Drowned in Muddy Fork of Cumberland River. From papers found on the
deceased it was learned that O'Connor's father is a resident of
Ironton. He served 4 years in the 10th Conf. Tennessee infantry . . .

The Athens (Ga.) Banner notes the death of Charles Wilson O'Farrell,
the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. O'Farrell, at Athens, Ga.,
and the burial services at Athens.

Mother of I. W. Ollum, of Proctorville, died on the 20th, inst., and
was buried at Rome Cemetery. She was in her 80th year.
O'NEIL, JANE I.R. JUL. 29,

Daughter of William and Catherine O'Neil, of Fayette county, Pa., born
Nov. 14, 1821. In 1833, the O'Neil family moved - left their native
state to seek a home in the west. Our travelers stopped at Wheeling.
There the whole family except Jane took the cholera and here the
father and John, the youngest brother died.

Aged 44, died Tuesday at Yazoo City, Miss., of typhoid malaria, after
a long spell of sickness. He was a son-in-law of Capt. John Kouns,
formerly of this city, and was running the steamer Des Arc in the
Vicksburg and Yazoo City trade. His body was taken to New Orleans
Wednesday for burial..

Deaths - May 31, Jos. Osborne, aged about 45. Joseph Osborne, who
lived on 8th street died suddenly yesterday. He was down at the
decoration exercises in the Court House yard, Monday afternoon,
returned feeling well and retired with no apprehension of sickness.
At. 1 o'clock, he awoke, raised himself a little and then fell over
dead.

Mother of Otto Otten, died at Cincinnati, last Monday. Mr. Otten
received intelligence of his mother's serious sickness, monday
morning, but she died before he got there.

Mrs. Mary F. Oviatt, wife of B. F. Oviatt, died last Sunday night.
Mrs. Oviatt was a resident of Ironton in its early days. She made her
home with Capt. J. L. Barber's family in the primitive history of
Ironton.

Died at Newport, Ky., on the 2nd day of August, Mrs. Rachel M. Owen,
formerly of Burlington, in the 75th year of her age.
OWENS, MRS. MATTIE I.R. MAY
29, 1902
Mrs. Mattie Owens of this City (Ironton) died at the Deaconess
Hospital Sunday of typhoid pneumonia, aged 35. A husband, Mr. Frank
Owens, engineer on the ferry boat, and four children are left to mourn
her loss. The family removed from Burlington about three months ago.
Mrs. Owens was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dillon, deceased, of
that town, and a cousin of Mrs. C. C. Davidson, Jas. T. Watts and
George W. Bean of this city.
