The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the Lawrence County Bicentennial Committee hosted a Grand Finale party on December 20, 2016, at the courthouse in downtown Ironton. The party brought to a close the county’s celebration of its 200th birthday. Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper conducted swearing in ceremonies for a number of officials recently elected to terms that begin in January; Boy Scout Troop 106 presented the colors. Dr. Douglas Carter gave an invocation and helped Commissioners Bill Pratt and Freddie Hayes ring the bicentennial bell; and numerous commendations were presented from U.S. Sen. Rob Portman; Rep. Bill Johnson; Governor John Kasich, Ohio Sen. Bob Peterson and Ohio Reps. Ryan Smith and Terry Johnson. Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith proclaimed the day in celebration of the bicentennial. There were performances by the Ironton St. Joseph High School choir and the Ironton High School choir, followed by drinks and refreshments and a photo display by the Lawrence Co. Historical Society and free Bicentennial memorabilia courtesy of Ironton aLive and the Chamber of Commerce.
