Family of Lawrence County, Ohio
The first person listed here was not himself an Ohio resident but was the father of a
pioneer of Gallia County, Ohio.
I. Henry McDaniel Sr.
d. May 1819 in Monroe Co., WV
Henry received 1761 and 1763 land grants in Halifax Co., Virginia. He moved
to Greenbrier Co., Virginia (now Monroe Co., West Virginia) in the 1780's.
II. Henry McDaniel Jr.
b. 7 Nov 1763 in Pittsylvania Co., VA
d. 28 Sep 1838 in Gallia Co., OH
Henry McDaniel Jr. enlisted in the Revolutionary War while living in
Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Upon discharge, he joined his parents in their
new home in Greenbrier Co., [now West] Virginia. There he met and married
Hannah Bryan, a first cousin once removed of President Abraham Lincoln.
Hannah was the daughter of Lydia (Lincoln) Bryan and the granddaughter of
Thomas Bryan of Rockingham Co., Virginia. Hannah's father was a son of
Thomas, possibly Benjamin. About 1810, Henry and Hannah McDaniel moved to
Ohio, on Symmes Creek, which at the time was still wilderness.
