McDaniel Family of Lawrence County, Ohio

 The first person listed here was not himself an Ohio resident but was the father of a 
pioneer of Gallia County, Ohio.

 

       I.      Henry McDaniel Sr.

               b. ?

               d. May 1819 in Monroe Co., WV

               m. ???

               b. ?

               d. 



Henry received 1761 and 1763 land grants in Halifax Co., Virginia.  He moved
 to Greenbrier Co., Virginia (now Monroe Co., West Virginia) in the 1780's.

 

       II.     Henry McDaniel Jr.

               b.  7 Nov 1763 in Pittsylvania Co., VA

               d. 28 Sep 1838 in Gallia Co., OH

              

Henry McDaniel Jr. enlisted in the Revolutionary War while living in 
Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.  Upon discharge, he joined his parents in their 
new home in Greenbrier Co., [now West] Virginia.  There he met and married 
Hannah Bryan, a first cousin once removed of President Abraham Lincoln.  
Hannah was the daughter of Lydia (Lincoln) Bryan and the granddaughter of 
Thomas Bryan of Rockingham Co., Virginia.  Hannah's father was a son of 
Thomas, possibly Benjamin.  About 1810, Henry and Hannah McDaniel moved to 
Ohio, on Symmes Creek, which at the time was still wilderness.

Also, I notice that while the other 3 generations on the page all include 
spouses and their dates immediately beneath, Henry Jr. does not.  Can you 
simply add the following lines directly under Henry Jr.'s dates:

       III.    Caleb McDaniel

               b. 28 Sep 1790 in Monroe Co., WV

               d. 20 Oct 1874 in Gallia Co., OH

               m. 14 Sep 1811 to Martha Williams

               b. ?

               d. ?

 Caleb served in the War of 1812.

 

       IV.     William Kent McDaniel (Rev.)

               b. 23 Apr 1823 in Lawrence Co., OH

               d. 18 Jan 1889 in Pataskala, Licking Co., OH

               m. 25 Apr 1846 to Sarah Rife

               b. 22 Nov 1822 in VA

               d. 10 Jan 1910 in Pataskala, Licking Co., OH



William was first a farmer and in 1853 became a circuit preacher in the United 
Brethren Church.  He had one son and four daughters.

 

       V.      Charles Benjamin McDaniel (Rev.)

               b. 14 Apr 1853 in Lawrence Co., OH

               d.  4 May 1908 in Waynesboro, PA

               m. 19 Oct 1879 to Florence Josephine Carr

               b. 1857 in Licking Co., OH

               d. 1899 in Germantown, OH



Charles, too, was an ordained preacher in the U. B. Church.  Also like his father, 
he had one son and four daughters.  His daughter Winifred was my grandmother.
