ISAAC CUMPSTON

Biography:  Very little is known of this Cumpston family.  Isaac and his wife Rachael were both about the same age, he being born in Maryland and she in Pennsylvania.  They were early residents of Lawrence and Gallia Counties in Ohio.  One source indicates that Isaac's mother was named Sarah.  In 1820, they appeared in Symmes Twp., Lawrence Co. and they then moved over to Gallia Co., Walnut Twp., where they are listed in the census records of 1830-1850.  The age of both Isaac and Rachael in the 1850 census is listed as 65.  The notice of Isaac's death appeared in the Ironton Register newspaper, stating that he died at home on 7 November 1857, aged "74 years".  Rachael moved in with James and Maria Lambert, her son-in-law and daughter.  She was living with them at the time of the 1860 census, and is noted as being "infirm".  Isaac and Rachael appear to have had at least six children.
